Is that true? I am so glad, sorry for you of course, if I were you I'd move - living is too expensive there anyway. I am very glad about that, I thought the whole of Britain would have to suffer for some stupid sports show!

Because its a naff institution nowadays and is based on money making. London has always been the beneficiary of every industry this country has been involved in, and the city is quite happy to let the suburbs decay and pretend everything is hunky-dory.

I can ask the similar question " why do inhabitants of the SouthWest pay exhorbhitant water charges to keep beaches clean for Londoners coming down to swim." ?

No doubt it will be a total farce during the build and the government will bung the project a lifeline or two in order to save face. So dont worry, no matter waht happens, the whole of the UK will be wiping Londons backside as usual.

because london is holding the games, if new york was holding the games in much the same way the UK wouldn't pay for it either. anyway the southeast of england, that's where london is, earns most of the UK's money anyway, so you'd be better to fund it. do you expect someone from inverness to pay for the games and the facilities when they will never even see them let alone use them. but you should really be thinking how much money the games will bring to london! and you a proud londoner? don't you want your city to show off all it has to the world and at the same time regenerate a huge area of london?

BTW the next olympics will be held in beijing in 2008, so your question is flawed, if you were as a londoner paying for the beijing games then perhaps you would have a reason to question it!

The next Olympics are in BEIJING and I am pretty sure Greater and Inner London ratepayers are not paying for it.

The 2012 London Olympics which are to be held in London are being paid for by us... Its something that rejuvenates parts of London, brings money in for London, extends London's public transport... would you want your tax money to go towards doing these things in Newcastle? Probably not.

If you host a party you pay for it. You can't expect your neighbours up the road to pay for it.

Me and my mom have always said this. The UK is a very small island and easy to get around with it's great transport connections. Why should London get everything. I know you will not benefit but it would be nice for the youngsters in the whole of the UK to gain a new sports facility not just Londoners.

Beacuse the people of Greater and Inner London will get the benefits.
Improved transport, business investment in the area etc.
Having said that I live in Paris and I was so glad when we lost.

The most beneficial aspect of any event of this scale is the regeneration of whole swathes of rundown cities. As the vast majority of east London is a sh*t hole then surly its up to the Londoners to pay for its clean up.

It really is deplorable. I have friends in New South Wales who tell me that they are still paying for the 2000 Olympics. I wonder who paid back in 1948?

When in UK I live in Inverness, can't see any Olympic stadiums, swimming pools or facilities being built up here.
