I want to take a trip on Amtrak but have heard that the trains can be late and cause problems on a tight schedule. Help me out, someone. Thanks much.

outside of California or the Northeast, service is limited, and can run into frequent delays, as Amtrak uses tracks owned by freight lines.

Be prepared for delays; allow flexibility into your schedule, and you can have a great time!

I dint know about" Amtrak Vacations" ,but I have taken Amtrak from Boston to California and back a few times. I loved it! I really think there is no better way to see the country. The trip through Colorado,Utah and Nevada was breathtaking! I met some great people--some I still stay in contact with. Everyone should do it at least once.

If traveling up and down the eastern or western seaboard, I'm pretty sure the trains are on time or only late within reason (not usually more than 2 hours).

If you're thinking about traveling through Texas on the Sunset Limited, you may want to have an open schedule....I mean waaaaay open. That train has been know to run 12-15 hours late.

The longest i've got spent is only over 24 hours on the practice, in spite of the undeniable fact that it became in Canada (from Toronto to northern Ontario), so i can't talk to what the trains are like in the U. S.. there are probable "sleeper" autos so in case you desire to pay extra you may have a mattress, or you may only sleep on your seat. The food on the Canadian practice became quite overpriced, and not all that super. i've got taken shorter practice journeys (Toronto to Montreal) and consistently extra my own food/beverages. there have been various stops, however the practice purely stayed in each and every station for a jiffy - in basic terms adequate time for each guy or woman to get on. i understand a few schedules are extra desirable than others (ie they via-bypass some stops counting on once you desire to bypass away/arrive). in my opinion i admire the practice - it quite is an stunning thank you to be certain the panorama with no need to rigidity, plus you may consistently arise and stretch in case you may desire to. some thing else that often fascinates me is the graffiti that has a tendency to stay with the tracks in the extra populated factors. it is quite thrilling to be certain IMO.
