Physical therapy is performed by physical therapists or physical therapist assistants who are educated and licensed in the treatment of physical impairment or functional limitation. They are knowledgeable in indications, precautions and contraindications of all treatment procedures they perform and are educated in how to perform all procedures safely. They are also required to earn continuing education and use evidence-based practice to ensure that they are up to date and effective with treatment. And although physical therapy may not always feel pleasant, it is rarely detrimental to your health. Physical therapy performed by a person who is not licensed or knowledgeable may be "bad for you."

Done by trained personnel under the supervision of a MD physiatrist, I can think of no adverse effect.
