I baby sit now and truthfully the best way to get customers is to start off by taking first aid classes and a couple of parenting courses. These certificates will help the appeal to your customers. Then post an ad in your local paper, local welfare office, and sometimes wal-mart, the post office, and other stores have a bulletin board where you can post fliers too. Make sure all of the fliers have phone numbers at the bottom that busy people can pull off easily for convience. Then go home and plan activities that are great for kids and wait for phone calls. If you are planning on babysitting within your home I would suggest putting together a craft closet and toy area for children. If you are planning on babysitting within the clients home then I suggest putting together a rolling suitcase full of neat toys and craft supplies (many parents do not have these things in their home) for the children to use. Any further suggestiond feel free to email me.

Check with your local parks and rec department or your local Red Cross some times they hold courses on babysitting. If you take there course then afterward they may have lists of parents that they can put the two of you in contact and you can decide if you want to sit for them. I did this as a young teenager and found work during my summers off of school. It worked out well, there was a time or two that I found I didn't like sitting for a particular family but you then have the choice to say no in the future, but I also found a great family that I sat for there kids full time for two summers. If you are a grown up looking for work sitting for children who's parents need a day care solution look into getting certifications that will get you into a network where again your info can be passed on and the parents have the peace of mind knowing you have standards that have to be met to be certified. Some of those standards may have to do with knowing CPR, having a maximum number of children you look after, meeting nutritional values and keeping a healthy environment. About certification, check with your local family and children services or look for similar local agencies.
