I don't want anything too complicated. I just take candid snapshots of my friends and family. But the stupid camera I have now (CoolPix) has a 3 second delay from the time I click the button until it takes the picture. If anything within the frame moves in those 3 seconds my picture is ruined. I'm looking to spend $500.00 or less.

You probably don't need a new camera...you probably just need to learn to pre-focus before you take the picture.

When you push the shutter button without pre-focusing, the camera has to take time to focus, calculate the exposure, etc. before it takes the picture. This is called 'shutter lag'. All digital cameras (non SLR) has shutter lag.

To pre-focus, compose your photo as you normally would, and press the shutter button half-way. The camera will give a indication when focus is achieved. Then when you fully press the button to take the picture, you'd find that the picture is taken right-away.

Try this technique with your CoolPix before you decide to buy another camera...what would you lose, it could even save you a few hundred dollars.

If you want a relatively good camera that you can use on trips if you decide to, you could get the Canon PowerShot 6.0-Megapixel Digital Camera. It is roughly $400 on Bestbuy.com. Good camera. Had one, sold it to get a Rebel though.

Kodak Easyshare 7650. Easy and takes great pictures, should be well below your 500 limit.
