Did religious 'scare tactics' drive people away from God?

Something I was thinking about today actually
Let's say some became atheist because they disagree with christianity..etc but then label all religion as complete ridiculous
But in reality, the atheist could actually do alot of practices involved with different beliefs like pantheism for example but will never investigate alternatives that could help them better understand their roles.

Fear of losing us forever also played apart in the death of Jesus. Some people will love someone so much they fear losing them right, how much more Jesus loves us that he would rather die to save us than to lose us.

Probably not. Islam is far more fire-and-brimstone oriented than either Christianity or Judaism and it appears to be growing faster than Christianity or Judaism.

Absolutely. We only have one life, why waste it on worshipping someone out of fear?

I think it drove people away from the church...not from God.
