that DON'T cause your sex drive to become non-existant? After months of trying to deal with some really stressful situations in my life, I finally gave in and went back on "Celexa". Immediately, my sex drive went from normal to high...to non-existant. I feel numb, I don't desire anything at all. Do all anti depressants do that? I've tried many and seem to have the same results with them all...horrible dry mouth constantly and no sex drive. Needless to say, in trying to combat one problem, I only end up with another one that is almost as bad. My doctor is useless, I've tried talking to her. Sadly, doctors in Ontario are few and far between so I feel stuck with the one I have..but maybe others out there have had better experience with anti-depressants? I'm in Canada. The dry mouth that I'm experiencing with them is also very bad, I feel parched all the time, no matter how much I drink. I really need some help!! please, any advice is appreciated!!! thanks.

I don't have a penis, and somehow think that would only add to my troubles:-) I guess I should have mentioned I'm a woman, in a long-term relationship.

I would definitely suggest finding another doctor. I went through 5 psychiatrists over a period of about 3 years before I was correctly diagnosed and given medication that works. I've been on about 8-10 different anti-depressants. Most had a really negative effect on me, and I was only on them for a short time. Right now I'm on Effexor, and my sex drive with it is A-okay. I've been on it for quite a while now and it works well for me. The only other one that didn't have negative sexual side effects for me was Wellbutrin. I took this 2 different times, once for about a year and then after about a year of trying others I went back to it, but then ended up moving on to something else. I found that the effects of Wellbutrin wore off after a while, and it was pretty much worthless. That is just me, though. Medications work differently in people since our bodies all respond to things differently.
Definitely definitely look into finding another doctor. It could make a world of difference!
Also, maybe consider counseling? If it's the stressful situations in your life that are mainly keeping you depressed, a combination of medication and therapy might be the answer. I was really lucky to find the therapist that I did. He was the first person to correctly diagnose me and refer me to the psychiatrist who agreed with his diagnosis and prescribed medication for it, medication that actually works. It's nice to have someone to talk to about the things in our lives that keep us down. Even for me medication isn't enough. It helps control the chemicals in the brain, but it doesn't change what's going on in life. A good therapist can help you learn how to deal with it all, get to the bottom of what's really keeping you down, and help you learn how to live life better.

I have manic depression with paranoid schizophrenic tendencies. Boy is that a mouth full. I take four different medications. The one that I have taken the longest is Effexor. This is for the depression. I have all the normal sex drives that a woman should have, Sometimes I think they might be a little more than I need. After all I'm 56 years old, but I was first6 diagnosed when I was 25. I would also like to say to all of you that said to try God, I have known him for some time. I probably wouldn't be as sane as I am without him!

I'm sorry to hear that. The anti-depressants don't always have good side effects. You really have to consider what is important to you - being NOT depressed - or a huge sex drive. It seems strange, but there are always trade offs. I would say that you could keep trying different medicines to see which one gives you the least side effects - because they all have side effects. And at the very least, practice makes perfect - just keep trying!

there is an entire world of anti-depressants out there and no they dont all affect your sex drive and they dont all parch you either...I understand that sometimes people need meds but maybe you should try God...he makes a big difference and sometimes cuts your need for the meds. You may have to search out a new doctor or perhaps you could consult with your pharmacist--they would know that side effects of the drugs.

Most antidepressants are MAO inhibitors and help anxiety and depression by not letting you feel it...not let feel anything. Your libido is still there, just been sent to la-la land. I wish I had a substitute for you. My personal recovery turned out to be the proper treatment by a naturopathic doctor (ND) and consisted of herbal, homeopathic and flower remedies. I wouldn't have believed it, but I recovered from my depression and anxiety within 6 weeks and am alive again. (I took Paxil, got fat, and hid in my attic apartment...and didn't care.)

You just really need to get a second opinion. Don't believe everything that one doctor says. A fresh pair of eyes is always helpful.

Wellbutrin. Clinically tested and shown to have minimal affect on the sex drive.

i'd probably suggetst some penis enlargement methods. A big penis always makes you feel better weather you're a man or woman.(however shallow that may seem)
