Probably to be there to meet Daniel Jackson when he ascended in Stargate.

Hey, they're both as credible as each other

I am not sure if this is correct or not but it was always how i was taught .. He did stay for I think it was 40 days after he rose from the dead. The purpose of the ascension was so he could go to his father his time on earth was done and what he had been sent to do was completed it was time for him to go and take his rightful place with his Father. He was never sent here with the purpose that he would be here forever he was sent to live as one of us, die on the cross for our sins, rise from the dead and ascend to the Father. His purpose had been fulfilled

Christ's Ministry in the Heavenly Sanctuary:
There is a sanctuary in heaven, the true tabernacle which the Lord set up and not man. In it Christ ministers on our behalf, making available to believers the benefits of His atoning sacrifice offered once for all on the cross. He was inaugurated as our great High Priest and began His intercessory ministry at the time of His ascension. In 1844, at the end of the prophetic period of 2300 days, He entered the second and last phase of His atoning ministry. It is a work of investigative judgment which is part of the ultimate disposition of all sin, typified by the cleansing of the ancient Hebrew sanctuary on the Day of Atonement. In that typical service the sanctuary was cleansed with the blood of animal sacrifices, but the heavenly things are purified with the perfect sacrifice of the blood of Jesus. The investigative judgment reveals to heavenly intelligences who among the dead are asleep in Christ and therefore, in Him, are deemed worthy to have part in the first resurrection. It also makes manifest who among the living are abiding in Christ, keeping the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus, and in Him, therefore, are ready for translation into His everlasting kingdom. This judgment vindicates the justice of God in saving those who believe in Jesus. It declares that those who have remained loyal to God shall receive the kingdom. The completion of this ministry of Christ will mark the close of human probation before the Second Advent. (Heb. 8:1-5; 4:14-16; 9:11-28; 10:19-22; 1:3; 2:16, 17; Dan. 7:9-27; 8:13, 14; 9:24-27; Num. 14:34; Eze. 4:6; Lev. 16; Rev. 14:6, 7; 20:12; 14:12; 22:12.)

After the Nation of Israel rejected the Lord Jesus Christ and had him kill, He still offered the Kingdom to Israel but when they blasphemed the Holy Ghost they were blinded and cut off. He went away so the Holy Spirit could come and dwell in the body of the believer. 1 Corinthians 3: 16 Know ye not that ye are the temple of God, and that the Spirit of God dwelleth in you? Galatians 3: 28 There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.

Jesus came to earth from the heavens.
John 8:23 John 6:62 say this.
He was on a mission ....the mission, once completed, he went back to where he lives permanently.
Hebrews 9:24 mentions he appeared before God, basically to say
"Mission accomplished."
The apostles always thought Jesus would restore things immediately and on earth (Acts 1:6)
When they saw him ascending toward the heavens, it was a powerful testimony that there was a bigger picture.
Jesus has been put in charge of God's government, or kingdom
(Daniel 2:44, Matthew 6:10)
It's headquarters is in the heavens.
Therefore he must be at headquarters.

He delivered the Gospels and his job was finished for the time being. Jesus is waiting to return at the dawn of the Golden Age when he will return to teach the world how to live as God intended. We have already been given the instructions through the Torah, Gospels (which were perverted by the Romans) and the Qu'ran. We refuse to get the message and now we are on the brink of destruction.

A close reading of scripture indicates that its authors believed that the "Second Coming" was very likely to happen within their own lifetimes. Jesus was expected back any minute. He famously says of the "Beloved Disciple" that "If I will that he tarry till I come, what is it to thee?" (speaking to Peter - John 21:22). Thus it appears that he intended to return before his own disciples had died.

Thus, for the people who constructed this mythology, the "Ascension" was really little more than a brief visit home before he returned to condemn the vast majority of his own creation to eternal hellfire.

Jesus said " I go to prepare a place for you so that you might have life eternal" He had fulfilled his purpose on earth as planned by God from the time He was conceived. He knew he would die for the sins of the world.

To prepare a place for His followers in heaven:
(John 14: 1-4) "Don't be troubled. Trust in God. And trust in me. There are many rooms in my Father's house. I would not tell you this if it were not true. I am going there to prepare a place for you. After I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back. Then I will take you with me, so that you can be where I am. You know the way to the place where I am going."

To ask God the Father to send the Holy Spirit to believers: (John 14: 16-17)
And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth.

Because Superman and Clark Kent cannot be in the same room together. Remember the Holy Spirit is God, and Jesus is God. The Holy Spirit, however, can be with each and every person on the planet at the same time. Jesus can't do that. He'd be stuck in Israel all the time, unless He commuted, and then, how's he going to get intimate with 6-1/2 BILLION people?????

Mat 28:20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.
