Hey Lili,
About half of the questions in this category can be related to Genealogy. Finding records, finding ancestors, finding people that have a mutual interest in the same ancestry.
You are correct in your implied assumption that there are many random inquiries in this category. My friend Ted Pack pointed out an answer to this question about 2 or 3 days ago. Lots of stuff that Yahoo cannot control.
However, there are meaningful inquiries for genealogy research here. One girl, found her Father's Birth Records - and from that the Maiden name of her Grandmother. Allowing her to continue her quest. Many have found out how to start in Genealogy Research by interviewing their Parents or other living relatives. So, if you think there is nothing of value here, you are wrong.
It is a mixed bag. I don't keep numbers or stats. I do tell people that they would get better answers if they found a more appropriate category. I also report questions as ABUSE, OTHER, "Wrong Category". I don't think it does any good, but I do it.

It seems to me that people will ask (very) stupid questions in a category that has nothing to do with the subject at hand, and I believe they do it just to get the points. Sometimes the questions posed are legit, but should be posted somewhere else.
Yes, there are many good questioned posed here in the genealogical section, and there have been some great (and thought out answers)..
Personally, I try to pose my question in the correct category, but will make a statement if I'm not certain if this is the correct place or not (whether it be genealogy or something else),

Who develop into this creature? i understand fairly some those who were extra up and nevertheless stay in council estates. there's a regular idea that once you're undesirable you have to be from the criminal aspects and ill bred, this isn't authentic. Social and housing in the united kingdom does favor some progression, and those poor tower flat blocks could bypass yet common their magnificent communities and human beings get on properly. As to prosperous or posh thick cakes as I call em, you should keep in mind that maximum are like judges and stay of their own truth of utopia the position all of us all subservient.

They are running pretty average. I use the real genealogy boards for questions; GenForum and Ancestry. They each have boards devoted to 10,000+ surnames, one for each county in the US, each state /province / shire in the english-speaking countries and one each for the other countries. 90% of the people who DO post a genealogy query here want a magic web site where they can enter their name and get a 16-generation pedigree, complete with a family coat of arms for each surname.
Glad you got some use out of it, though.
