Matthew 19:19 "....Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself."

Exodus 20:17
"You shall not covet your neighbor's house. You shall not covet your neighbor's wife, or his manservant or maidservant, his ox or donkey, or anything that belongs to your neighbor."

Now, the way I love myself is, of course I am sure the way most everyone else loves themself when they get aroused and in the mood. And the bible clearly tells me to do this to my neighbor as Matthew says. Therefore, should I go next door and love my fine female neighbor and love her as myself?

that is not by any means a contradiction, covet means to desire what we don't have love and covet are no ware and in no way the same.and as fare as your neighbor goes well would you lust after your own body and if you where married would you want some man trying to sleep with your wife.but if she is single and u are also then I say u start as a friend and ask her out. Give her the respect she need and go from there don't just try to make crazy crape like this on the Internet. because u would have to be dumb to think that adultery is right and that love and covet are one in the same.

In the Greek, there are three words for love. Phileo, Agape and Eros. They mean brotherly love, the love of God and love between a husband and wife, respectively. With that information, read the original Greek gospels and the answer will be clear to you.

You can't be serious.

Do you only know one kind of love?

Is the love that you have for your parents the same as the love you feel for your wife?

I can love my neighbor without coveting his goods or his wife.

Big Difference.

Peace!

The word "love" has other meanings, such as respect.
"You shall not bear false witness against thy neighbor."One is forbidden to desire and plan how one may obtain that which God has given to another. Envy might be a good word.

The mode of love is indicated in the words "as thyself." This does not mean that a man must love his neighbor equally as himself, but in like manner as himself, and this in three ways. First, as regards the end, namely, that he should love his neighbor for God's sake, even as he loves himself for God's sake, so that his love for his neighbor is a "holy" love. Secondly, as regards the rule of love, namely, that a man should not give way to his neighbor in evil, but only in good things, even as he ought to gratify his will in good things alone, so that his love for his neighbor may be a "righteous" love. Thirdly, as regards the reason for loving, namely, that a man should love his neighbor, not for his own profit, or pleasure, but in the sense of wishing his neighbor well, even as he wishes himself well, so that his love for his neighbor may be a "true" love: since when a man loves his neighbor for his own profit or pleasure, he does not love his neighbor truly, but loves himself.

It is saying love your neighbor, but don't be jealous of them. How is that contradicting itself. It's telling you two different things, not to do and then not to do something. READ IT! LOL

God Bless!

Not amorous love, please. It is the type you feel for your mom, dad, siblings, etc. I am sure you don't love your relations with lustful desires.
