I love my brother. We both have not spoken to each other (only for emergencies) for 3 years. I have made efforts to communicate with him, but he will not reciprocate. I feel uncomfortable when we are together. What can I do to change this?. I am determined not to let this go on for another year. Why does it take a crisis to get him to communicate?

He may not be in a place to communicate. The only thing you can do is try, but if he doesn't want to.... there isn't much you can do. Sorry.

Tell him what you've told us and ask him what's up. If he doesn't respond, then you've done all you can do. The rest is up to him.
