This is one of the problems I have with the concept of an afterlife as described by the Big Three.
One wrong move or mistake during your time on Earth, and it's into the fiery pits of hell for all eternity. Even if you were only 15 or 20 when you died, that short time is enough to condemn your soul for all time, meanwhile those who were as bad or worse, but lived long enough to repent their sins while on Earth get to go to Heaven.
There's no room for further spiritual redemption or development after death in this system. You are frozen at the state you were at when you left this world.
However, if the 'rules' are changed to allow for development and change after death, and souls in Hell can be redeemed, then what incentive is there to live a good life on Earth? You can kill, rape, torture and murder your way through this life, and then make up for it in the next world. Sure, it may take you a few millenia of redemption, but if you have eternity so what?
I find either way unacceptable, and incompatible with a loving, merciful god.

At this point there are not too many souls in Heaven other than the trinity, the angels and the few who found Grace in the eyes of the Lord from the Old testament. All others are in hell awaiting there 2nd judgement which will be done after the end of days, where all will be judged according to faith instead of law. Those who in the OT were basically good people but sinned a little were forgiven with the sacrifice of Jesus and will be judged according to their works while on earth.

bavwill,
I imagine! I just don't know though. After reading something in the Apocrypha, It apparently becomes terribly obvious what those that are not in Christ will realize that it's too late to try. Both sides will know that. I looked all over the thing again, trying to find it, and I just can't find it. The scene that I remember is something like this:
There are these cliffs. The sides of the cliff face eachother. At one end of the cliff, the Son of Man can be seen on a throne. His righteousness is obvious, just to see you know that it is uncomparable, powerful beyond anything anyone has ever seen.
The righteous enter on one side of the cliff, and have seven days to see what's going on, there are habitations for them. Either when they decide, or after the seven days, they go into the habitation, where it is profoundly quiet.
The unrighteous enter on the other side of the chasm, and occupy the other cliff facing the righteous side's cliff. They see the righteousness of the Lord and know that it is too late for them. They can in no way overcome or make restitution for their lack of righteousness. They wander about on the cliff, awaiting their inevitable judgement. At any time they can cast themselves over the cliff, and wait for their judgement while in Hell.
I wish I could tell you were I saw that, but I do believe that it was in the Apocrypha. Things are set in an order there. And like it or not, you are included in the order of one side or the other.
That's why we Chiristians are sometimes so persistent in preaching the message of grace. We DON'T want to see people not make it. But none come save the Father draws them nigh.

Since heaven is supposed to be a great place where everyone is always happy, then I guess what's left of their memory and reason is taken away (as to not be sad about current world events and the ultimate fate of their loved ones)
As for security, why again does anyone want to go there when they're already hangin' with the 'fun' crowd?

They would if God hadn't set it up so that the chasm cannot be crossed either way. The Bible says their names will be blotted out forever and that their existence and agenda won't be remembered. The people in heaven will not remember that the people in hell ever existed - even if it's their own mother, father, husband, or wife, etc. It's just a supernatural work of God. In the book of Revelation it says that all the tears are wiped away from the eyes and there is no more pain and sorrow.
It used to be that before Jesus died and resurrected that (example from Jesus' account of Lazarus and the rich man found in Luke chapter 16), even though Lazarus and the rich man could communicate with each other from the place of the dead (or Sheol in the Hebrew language), there was always a chasm where light and darkness could not coexist. The faithful ones - or ones full of faith - were kept in Abraham's bosom (aka Paradise) and the unfaithful and unbelieving were kept in flames of torment. But Jesus went into Sheol and led captivity captive and delivered Abraham's bosom, aka Paradise, out of darkness and brought it up out of that place of the dead and delivered it with all its inhabitants to heaven with Him (Ephesians 4:8).

Assuming they do exist, no, I don't think anyone in Heaven feels bad about anything!! They are in a place of perfect peace! I guess as far a security goes, there would be angels guarding the gates of heaven.

No - it will be empty as most Christians can add hypocracy to all our sins, and anyone who did qualify would certainly give up his place for someone else and then get cast down anyway for disobeying the great benign spirit (with a taste for BBQ).
ANyway who needs security - who in hell would want to live in the gated community of the Lord, oh the boredom...

That's a great contradiction, isn't it? If you feel bad, then heaven wouldn't be perfect, because there would be this kind of sorrow. If on the other hand, you don't feel bad, that's because you're insensitive, and if you are insensitive, do you deserve to be in heaven?
This is the soundest refutation of hell and heaven I have ever read!

I think everyone in heaven, including God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, morn for the souls in Hell.
According to the Bible, Hell is simply separation from God, where God does not exist at all, and is ruled by Satan. The modern image of Hell is from Faust, I believe, and not from the Bible.

Well u cant really say those in hell were 'human' in the first place as why else wud they be with the devil. I suppose u wud only feel bad as the souls have lost the opportunity for eternal happiness.
In other words we wudnt feel sorry for evil thats in hell( were evil belongs) but for a soul that has turned to evil and has been lost forever.
