Kitty Calendar:

* One Day Old: Newborn kittens are very tiny and you can hold them in the palm of your hand. They can't see yet, but they can smell. All they can do is sleep and drink their mother's milk.
* One Week Old: Their weight doubles and their eyes begin to open.
* One Month Old: They start to sit up and play with their siblings.
* Two Months Old: They stop nursing and begin eating food.
* Three Months Old: They begin to lose their baby teeth and new teeth grow in.
* Six Months Old: They get along on their own without their mother.
* One Year Old: Kittens become full grown cats. Cats can live many years. The average life expectancy of a cat is 14 years, but many live to be 20 years and older.

Well, a cat takes about a year to develop to about the equivalent of a human at age fifteen. At a year old they've taken on adult proportions and they're approaching adult size, but they still have some growing to do. They're sexually developed and have been aboe to breed for a while, but hey're probably not yet mature enough for effective parenthood.

At age two a cat is about equivalent to a human at age twenty-three, solidly established in adulthood.

So by a year a cat is no longer a kitten, and by age two it's definitely an adult cat. When you stop calling it a kitten and start calling it a cat is pretty much up to you, but any time from somewhere short of a year to maybe a year and a half would probably be appropriate.

On the other hand, your kitty will always be your kitten, and nobody will complain if you keep calling her that.

By the way, once they're two years old, about equivalent to a human of age 23, you can calculate heir human equivalent age simply by adding four human years to each calendar year. So at age three a cat is like a human of 27, and so on.

Note that by this calculation a cat of age ten is as aged as a human of 55, and those are the ages at which we've both been considered "seniors" of our respective species.

The typical life expectancy of a domestic cat is about 17, which is like the early to mid 80s in humans. Age 20, which corresponds to a human age of 95, is no longer really uncommon for well cared for cats.

I know at 6 months of age they are old enough to be fixed. I would say they are considered a cat then, but I have a cat that is 5 years old, and he is crazy like a kitten! :)

A year old. That is when you can change their kitten food to cat food. And even after a year, they still do not stop growing!

The first year of age is the human equivalent of 18 years, then 5 years for every 1 year afterward.
Based on human children, I'd give it more than a year.
