I obtained my citizenship because of The Child Citizenship Act of 2000. My mother is a U.S. citizen and I was born in Mexico. My mother did not live in the U.S. long enough before my birth for me to be a citizen of U.S. at birth. She left to Mexico at 5 yrs old. I am 21 now and have lived in the U.S. with my mother for 12 yrs. I just found out I got my citizenship automatically because of my age when the The Child Citizenship Act of 2000 was passed. I was under 18 and was residing as a permanent resident with my mother in the U.S. Now......the Question. Is the anyway to verify that I automatically became a citizen with out going through lenthy process of Certification of Citizenship or U.S. Passport? I know I will need these to prove my citizenship but how can I verify it now?

You can't. You still have to apply for the Certification of Citizenship. Unfortunately, that is the way it is.

School, medical, and other such types of records, coupled with your entry stamp from when you entered the united states should work out.

Also, if you are a permanent resident, then they should have records of your permanent residency applications and such which can also be used as proof.

If you've been a PR for more than 5 years though, I say just apply for citizenship, it's pretty easy if you speak English and paid attention in history class.

If you are a citizenship, you should have received a Certificate of Citizenship. I guess the easiest thing to do would be to file the form to get a replacement Certificate, saying that you lost your old one.

YOU SHOULD HAVE SCHOOL RECORDS THAT WILL SHOW THAT YOU RESIDED HERE FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT YOU SAY. GET YOUR SCHOOL RECORDS FOR THE AMOUNT OF TIME THAT YOU LIVED HERE.
