If one of the girls were his own daughter, would he want the school kids to know that? I cannot imagine how this added to the issue in any way. Better he be recalled and sent packing to Alabama.

For those of you who state in your answer that "it would have come out anyway" or "the sheriff had to release the information" I suggest you check local laws before making fools of yourselves

I agree, bad bad judgment call on his part. He should be reprimanded for that in the very least. I don't know anyone, teenage or not, who has been raped who would want that info broadcasted on International TV. Stupid, stupid, stupid.

:::edit::: maybe we should all write a letter to the DPD???

This isn't exactly a unique case. Almost always when a girl is kidnapped, killed, or whatever....they always report if the victim was harmed in any way, even if it's sexual in nature. I don't understand the disgust for this one particular sherriff when every other case has the facts are reported as well. Plus, it's better for them to report the facts rather than have all kinds of rumors and assumptions flying around. The school kids would find out anyway, since there was more girls involved than just the one who was shot.

I had the same reaction. That was a detail I did not need to know and that did not add to my insight into the whole incident. As if the whole thing isn't tragic enough without some idiot releasing info like that!!! What a horrid ordeal. I am wrecked over the 16 yr. old losing her life and really can't even think about what must be going on with those poor kids. I don't know about bashing Alabama though...What brought that on? Thanks for venting what many of us were thinking in regards to the sherriff's big, insenstive mouth.

You'd be condemning the Sheriff if you found out later that he didn't give all the information. It's a no win for him no matter what he does.

I think his reasoning is to allow others to know what a horrific thing happened to those girls and what kind of a monstrous person they were dealing with.

Instead of feeding the negativity, you should try and focus on the positive. Goodness knows there's enough negativity out there without needlessly adding to it.

Because some idiot is going to second guess the decision to go in after this guy. You should spend your time condemning this animal instead of the Sheriff.

He can be a concerned sherriff that wants the citizens of the town he is in to take action and help stop this. He's not worried about his daughter's rep because who's going to say" Ooooooo she was molested..... dont' touch her!!!" NOBODY. He just wants to stop it.

hes a cop, did you expect any better?

no thats just plain public policy though, and your example about it being his daughter is right on. I say there should be reprocussions for his loose tongue, but we know there wont be any.
