I'm female...I went from vigorous cardio workouts (without weight training) to incorporating weight training along WITH cardio several weeks ago. I weight train 3-4 times a week, and have noticed a slight change in my weight. Since I went from zero weight training to adding it 3-4 times a week, is it pretty much guaranteed that I would put on a few pounds due to added muscle weight? A few pounds, anyway? Just curious.

Also, can inflamed swollen joints from RA cause a slight weight increase? Works about the same as water weight around menstruation time would be my guess?

Thanks for your answers. But to comment on what Dogpreacher said, I'm not decreasing the amount of cardio I'm getting -I'm getting the same amount, just added weight training into the mix. I went from jogging more to using eliptical machines and cardio that has less impact on my knees, but im still getting a full body cardio workout and getting my heart rate up.

You should definitely expect to see weight gain now that your lifting. What you should really be doing is looking in the mirror instead of the scale. you should start looking leaner, even if youre gaining weight.

You are right on all accounts. Muscle weighs more than fat and is smaller. So as long as you are happy with the way you look, don't worry about weight.

You do run a slight risk of gaining fat by decreasing your aerobic work. It takes a while to find the balance.

Be Blessed
