I thought the pope is guided by the Holy Spirit. If that is so how can he make a mistake?

The Catholic Church teaches that the Pope is infallible at closely defined times.

The Pope is only infallible when he, in union with the body of bishops, solemnly teaches that a doctrine as true.

This comes from the words of Jesus to Peter (the first Pope) and the Apostles (the first bishops), "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven" (Matthew 18:18) and "He who hears you hears me" (Luke 10:16).

At all other times the Pope can be just as sinful as you and me and be in need of forgiveness.

With love in Christ.

The Pope is a human being. The Holy Spirit prevents the Pope from promulgating any false doctrine binding on the universal Church. That's it. In any ordinary decisions he makes in everyday life, he is as fallible as anyone else.

The Pope was not alive between 1000 and 1600 AD, so He would have nothing to apologize for even if your silly statement were factual.

By definition of Catholic doctrine, the Pope is infallible in matters of faith. In Christianity, all Christians are "guided by the Holy Spirit", so the Pope is included. The most the Pope could apologize for is making people upset. If he apologizes for his quote (by definition, he was quoting a 13th century manuscript, and the words were not his own), he would no longer be infallible in matters of religion.

The Pope has not dedicated a mistake. He quoted a writing. If there's a mistake, then the author he quoted would desire to be the only to ask for forgiveness. besides, Islamic leaders and Christen leaders have distinctive believes. Why would desire to that reason anger till the actuality hurts.

The Pope should apologize for the murder of countless of millions of Christians at the hand of the Roman Catholic Church between 1000 AD and 1600 AD.
