What do you define as cheap? However I will be brave and suggest HILO on The Big Island of Hawai'i - - - want to go real cheap, build up a pen-pal relationship, a 'local' will always be able to find the best deals. This technique works for any place on Earth. Write, talk on phone, build asolid bond- - - if you are church goers contact a church in Hilo or place of your choice in Hawai'i. Former soldier, work in a orofession that has a guild or uniuon, do you have ahobby such as sewing or cooking, are you of acertain ethnicgroup or nationality, there are groups that you can contact and forge a bond upon a bond that already exists.

Here are some links ideas for Hilo

I know there is some camping around the edges of the islands..I saw tents! So you never know....maybe you can rent a tent? Sounds like a real bummer of a vacation to make your wife and baby sleep in a tent though. I think you and your family will appreciate the flushing toilets and warm showers and soft beds.

Molokai is not as touristy,... and therefore more reasonable in price; also Molokai is more traditional Polynesian less commercialized/industralized than the other islands; however ANY where you go n Hawaii is NOT going to be CHEAP
