With computers I've heard it's better to just leave them on. So I was wondering if the same goes for televisions.

If I were planning to watch T.V. all day, would it be less wear and tear on the T.V. if I just left it on, or should I give it a rest for a couple of hours and turn it back on again?

I have worked in TV repairs for 45 years ! I am retired now but I will acquaint you with a couple of undisputed facts that even the armchair know alls can not disagree with !!
( 1 ) TVs , light bulbs of any kind that use a glowing filament do not like to be switched on in the first place !
( 2 ) Once ON the above mentioned objects do NOT like to be switched OFF again ! .
( 3 ) Reason being that a heater filament in any of the above mentioned devices will on switch on from cold will writhe and twist and turn until its operating temperature is reached !!
( 4 ) When the operating temp is reached however then the filament is very happy to stay in a steady state !
( 5 ) When someone switches off the filament is not happy as it goes from glowing hot back to cold again ! .
( 6 ) Can anyone dispute this ?
( 7 ) A last example would be a humble light bulb say in a factory environment that works 24/7 and is left on permanently will out last the light bulb in the office that only gets used during darkness and switched off during day!! Now Asker you can answer your own question !! Pete

If it a regular TV with a tube I will say no. The reason being, the front of the Tube uses Phosphor and High voltage. An electron gun hits the Phosphor with electrons and this makes it glow to make your picture. In the dark when you turn the TV off this why it will glow for a few seconds. Over time the Phosphor loses strength from use, so, the more a TV used over time the less the picture quality will be. You will notice the color not a vivid.

That's a myth. Do not leave your computer on all the time either - that's a myth as well. Not to mention expensive. Pentium 4 processors will suck the power out of your walls if you let them idle for no reason.

If you love TV, watch it. When you are done, turn it off. Same with your computer.
