Yes you are right. It is the multitude of view points that have divided the church into a sort of flavor of the month thing. I have had people tell me that i should go too church and then proceed to tell me to pick one that suits my needs or character. Is this a joke? There should be one church that states the Bible and what God is about period.

Different Churches are caused by the human misunderstanding of a Supreme Being

Organized religion is man's effort to please God. There are many different interpretations of which way is best. A personal relationship with Jesus Christ is Him coming down to meet you where you are at. Logically speaking, you're right. But it will never happen, given human nature. I worship in one denomination, but that doesn't mean adherents of the others are automatically going to hell. God looks on the heart.

There is only one church. Church is the community of saints. The Bible speaks of several churches, which were congregations that formed in geographically distant locations. They were not unified in heirarchy or government. They each developed their own strengths and weaknesses (See Revelation 2 and 3)
So, there is one community of saints, one church. There is more than one form of church government, and more than one building, more than one preacher, and more than one corporate personality found among congregations.
It is not necessary to believe that the Greek Orthodox Church is the one, true church. We are each the temple of the Holy Spirit. We who have faith and trust in Jesus Christ for salvation from sin and salvation from God's wrath, and who strive to live a life pleasing to God, belong to the one, true church.

there are reasons why there are more than one religious belief system. one can tell the type of religion by the society and the type of society by the religion. the reason there are different religions is simply the fact each different culture and society have different religious needs. what works for an agrarian society may not work for a hunter gather society. the requirements for religion may differ not only type of cultures and societies but areas of the country because of climate, terrain, background, superstitions, etc. all religious belief systems in spite of their differences all have basically the same goals. it is not the way we get to the destination that is important but rather getting there.

I don't think that it really matters. We who are believers are all the body of Christ. We have different denominations because each person takes scripture differently. As long as each denomination believes that Jesus Christ is the son of God, died on the cross for our sins, rose from the grave, and will be back to take us home,it does not matter.

I've wondered about this myself. Why are there so many people who believe so many different things? Just goes to show that everyone has their own ideas.
