A lot of the products you buy as supermarket own brands are manufactured centrally. Who knows who manufactured either the Sainsbury brand or the Tesco brand (or both??) ? Kidney beans are basically the same product whatever their origin and why, oh why, do you feel this sense of loyalty to Sainsbury? Go ahead and enjoy your chilli con carne and next time consider buying the beans dry and soaking them overnight and boiling them up yourself. It is cheaper and you don't agonise over supermarket loyalties in this way!

when cooking when it calls for a brand name it is not necessary that you have to adhere strictly to that... the kidney beans are kidney beans the only thing is if it called for a can of sainbury kidney beans and the two have a different amount than the recipe would change but in making chili a little more or less beans don't matter.....cheers

Of course Sainsbury want's you to use their product - more money for them.
Personally, beans is beans, as long as there are no other differences (like one has onions or pork added where the other one doesn't). I often use the store brand when I get a recipe like that and haven't noticed a difference at all.

It's no problem. Juts drain the beans first. When you read recipes from Supermarkets they always tell you to use their products so they sell more. When they say they wouldn't guarantee the results ignore them. They are trying to put doubt in your mind so that you'll buy their beans instead.
By the way, on a political note. Sainsbury's is a very, very big financial contributor to the Labour Party. (How do you think that Lord Sainsbury got his peerage? Simple, he bought it from Tony Blair!)

Red kidney bean contain a highly poisonous toxin. If the beans are not properly soaked to remove the poison, and you eat the beans, you die.
Check the Tesco tin to make sure it says "all toxins removed". See the poison information page linked below.

Beans are beans, I use more than one type in my chili
and I am always switching the varieties and quantities, Being in Southern Calif., we mainly use Pinto beans. But all work fine!

Where you got the beans won't make any difference at all, so long as you do everything else the same as you usually do, it will be ok. Enjoy!!
