What does that guy on the loudspeaker talk about at 6:30 in the morning? My platoon sergeant and commander gave me their version, but I would like to hear what you all say it is. Is it really prayers? The Iraqi contractors never stopped to pray when the loudspeaker guy came on. I always noticed that.

Hi JB, In Islam this guy is called Muat'zin(inviting for the most important pillar "Solat").It is not only 6:30 in the morning but also five times a day.Not only the Iraqi contractors never stopped to pray when they heard but also there are thousands of muslims all over the world. They do not understand how "Solat" important for muslims.
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said "Solat is the one and only major pillar which distinguish believers and non-believers."
The Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said at the last minutes when he is going to leave us "Beware of Solat, Beware of Solat, Beware of Solat, and Beware of treatment to your slaves".

I'm not sure if what you heard is the call to prayer called "Adhan " but I'm guessing you did. It's called 5 times a day to announce the time of each prayer (there's a morning prayer, afternoon, noon, sunset, and night prayer)

This is what is being said:

Allahu Akbar
Allah is Great
(said four times)

Ashhadu an la ilaha illa Allah
I bear witness that there is no god except the One God (Allah).
(said two times)

Ashadu anna Muhammadan Rasool Allah
I bear witness that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah.
(said two times)

Hayya 'ala-s-Salah
Hurry to the prayer (Rise up for prayer)
(said two times)

Hayya 'ala-l-Falah
Hurry to success (Rise up for Salvation)
(said two times)

Allahu Akbar
Allah is Great
[said two times]

La ilaha illa Allah
There is no god except the One God (Allah)

For the pre-dawn (fajr) prayer, the following phrase is inserted after the fifth part above, towards the end:

As-salatu Khayrun Minan-nawm
Prayer is better than sleep
(said two times)

Maybe the Iraqi contactor prays in private when he's not on duty, or neglects his 5 daily prayers.

That is a time for Muslim to get up and pray.
Then they call for jihad to kill the pigs ,dogs (Jews , Christians)
and if they kill atheist that is the big time victory for them and they will have 140 virgins in heaven.

I believe he is doing the same thing that Mr. Rogers does on TV. Since they don't have TVs it seems, the speaker or host that day has to put on his performance from a tower. Similar to broadcasting from a TV antennae/tower. "won't you be my neighbor".

It sounds like me after a night of drinking bad draft and eating old cheese.

he's gives the morning announcements, talks a little about what they may have missed on Conan, a few opening jokes, and then a call to jihad
