In cancer there is no level 4. There are Grades and Stages.

In pathology, Grading is a measure of the progress of tumors.

Cancer is a disorder of cell growth, and cancerous cells often lack differentiation, resembling primitive cell types. An important part of evaluating a cancer is to determine its histologic grade. Grade is a marker of how differentiated a cell is. Grade is rated numerically (Grade 1-4) or descriptively (e.g., "high grade" or "low grade"). The higher the numeric grade, the more "poorly differentiated" is the cell, and it is called "high grade". A low grade cancer has a low number and is "well-differentiated." Grade is most commonly given on a three-tier scale. A cancer that is very poorly differentiated is called anaplastic. Tumors may be graded on four-tier, three-tier, or two-tier scales, depending on the institution and the tumor type. A three-tier scale is most commonly used.

The stage of a cancer is a descriptor (usually numbers I to IV) of how much the cancer has spread. The stage often takes into account the size of a tumor, how deep it has penetrated, whether it has invaded adjacent organs, if and how many lymph nodes it has metastasized to, and whether it has spread to distant organs. Staging of cancer is important because the stage at diagnosis is the biggest predictor of survival, and treatments are often changed based on the stage.

I mean you have ment staging. I think you can assess now.

Unfortuneately stage four is kind of the end stage. Most times if a person is at stage 4, they dont have alot of time left. There are always exceptions to this rule, but i dont think survial statistics are too good. Also depends on the type and location of the cancer. Some take better to chemo and radiation than others do. I have a cancer that is resistant to both from what the doctors tell me. Surgery is the only alternative. I feel for you and your having to deal with this, god bless you, you will be in my thoughts and prayers!

When some one tells you that you have stage four cancer. That means the cancer has spread from it's primary sight to other parts of the body. The cancer is moving, it's no longer contained in it's original place.

My mother was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer. She underwent 12 months of chemo and radiation. They told her she was cancer free. One year later she died from a blood clot that was caused from an antibiotic administered through a port for an abscessed tooth. Lesson it's not always the cancer that gets you, sometimes it's the doctors playing God.

My mom had stage 4 breast cancer and lived for three years after her diagnosis and she lived a somewhat normal life until a few months ago. Luckily nothing had spread to her major organs but she had mets of the bones, but not very much. The chemo help shrink the tumor in her breast and radiation helped with the cancer on her bones. After almost three years on chemo, she was tired of it and talked to her doc who switched her to hormone therapy this past May. Well, things started going downhill from there. We lost her this month on her 64th b-day

Do you mean stage 4? Cancer stages range from stage 1-4. Stage 4 is the worst. Not completely hopeless, but once it hits that stage, the survival changes are greatly reduced.

My father was in the 4th stage of pancreatic cancer before we knew he had it. He started going to the doctor in July, was diagnosed in August and we lost him on April 18.

Every cancer is different as is every patient. My prayers go out to you, if you are dealing with this.
