They are not your responsibility. You can leave if you want.

Sounds like you have to decide between your friends, or your boyfriend. If you are not ready to settle down, then you are not doing your boyfriend or his kid any favors by sticking around.

If you are serious about your boyfriend, then maybe cutting back with your friends a little...but not completely...would be the answer.

Just remember that it would be the same way if you had the kid. The 7 year old has feelings and attachments as well...and if your boyfriend was just willing to stick his kid with a sitter all the time, then he wouldn't be much of a parent, and maybe he wouldn't be such a good boyfriend either.

Tell him you love spending time with him and his kid but you need time with your friends as well. Take a few times out of the week just to do things with your friends without him. But make sure you spend adequate time with him as well.

Question: you are dating this guy, so have you thought about the possibility of being a step-mom to a seven year old. If this is something you cannot do, then you should break it off now before it goes any further. If it is something you can do, then you will need to figure out a system to balance home-life and friend-life that works for all of you. Good luck

If you are resenting him (or his 7-yr old) at this point, it sounds like you should simply break up with him. It will only get worse, for all involved. There are others out there who are looking to find an instant family, or who love kids, and it doesn't sound like you are one of them. There are also plenty of guys out there without kids who might be able to join you and your friends. Just be honest. Dating is a time to find out how compatible you are. If you find that you aren't, be kind and end it so you can both move on to find someone else who is.

You choose not to do anything with your friends. Who says you can't? You don't have the responsibilities of raising a child, your man does. If you were married, it would be a different story, but you're just dating.

Maybe you should politely tell him that though you love him and his kid, you have friends and a life outside of his family. And that you can't neglect your friends for someoen else's family. He had that kid with another woman, so unless you guys get married, he has a family that does not include you. You can't neglect your friends because you decided to get involved with a ready made family.

Why? are you his live in nanny? Just because you are dating someone with a child doesn't mean you no longer have a social life unless you allow it to be that way. Take a break and go out with the girls!!

If you truly care for him or love him then be with him but just because he has a kid shouldnt mean that you cant go out with your friends. That child is not your responsibility.

You should be allowed to hang with your friends.... I don't see whya that's a problem with him. What do you feel and think of it all? Is it him who is preventing you or you just can't seem to make the time to see your friends? Which is it?
