my cats loved dog food... i had just fed them once. is it of any harm to them?

It took food companies and vets over ten years to figure out that processed pet food was lacking in taurine an essential amino acid that cats cannot produce in their bodies and must get from their food. Lack of taurine had been leading to blindness in cats and serious heart problems.
So now taurine is added to all processed cat food. That is why your cat must have "cat" food. Dog food does not have taurine added as dogs make it in their own bodies.

No!!! cats are strictly carnivores and dogs, on the other hand, are omnivores. Dogs require some plant enzymes while cats to not. It would not be deadly to give it to your cat but it lacks MANY of the vitamins that cats need to carry out bodily functions and could cause blindness and heart problems.

Once, or once in a while,won't hurt, but don't let it become a significant part of kitty's diet. Dog food doesn't meet a cat's unique nutritional needs.

Cat food has much more protein than dog food. It's essentially junk food for the cat.

No, don't feed them dog food. If you have no cat food, give people food in a pinch.

Cats definitely need CAT FOOD. Dog food is not good for them Cat food contains TAURINE, which dog food does not. Taurine helps a cats eyesight. Without this a cat WILL go blind. This is serious. Please buy cat food.

Sure if they love it and eat it! You wouldn't believe all the stuff my cats eat! Just don't give the dog cat food! It gives them the sh*ts!

It is NOT okay to feed them with dog food! They need proteins and dog food doesn't provide them with enough proteins!

Depends on the dog food, but a good brand will be low in cereal content ,hence the higher price you pay, and it wont harm the cat.
