I just would like to know why,If you don't believe in religion or spiritual things, why is it you are in the section for it..You have the right to go where you want I know,But I don't understand if you don't want to hear it and we as Christains and many others who are religious people want to talk about our religious ways, why do you bother reading if it really bothers you so much??
Please don't think I 'm trying to be a smartbutt,,it just is something I would like to know...

i am on here because i am curious as to what you believe, I read the questions and either answer or not, and when i aske serious questions in this area it is because i truly am curios as to what religious people think. The problem with that is i usually just get quoted scripture, which means nothing to me, i want an opinion from a religious person, but it seems as though you guys aren't allowed your own opinions, as i rarely ever get one.

The section is titled Religion & Spirituality. That title alone does not mean "Religious people only". Futhermore, we're in the Society & Culture section. I feel I have a vested interest in how religion is affecting society in the U.S. That is why I am here.

I mostly ignore questions about religious beliefs asked by a religious person and directed by at other religious persons. But there are a LOT of questions here directly target at atheists and agnostics, asking us about our beliefs. I generally try to answer every such question I see. I ususally try to answer respectfully, though I admit that occasionally I respond in kind to questions that are not asked respectfully.

I think the U.S. is moving dangerously towards becoming a Christian Theocracy. I don't want the U.S. to become a Christian Iran. I wasn't an atheist activist 10 years ago, and if the pendulum swings back even a little, I'll probably spend less time in atheist activism. I'd rather spend the time with my family, and doing research & development in computer & cognitive science.

It is a field of scholarly discussion. I needn't believe in a thing to be interested in it. I have an interest in the ancient greek religions as practiced by the classical greeks -- I don't believe in Zeus or Hera though.

I have had very in depth debates with friends about the mythology of the werewolves in the Werewolf: The Apocalypse role-playing game, but I don't believe in Gaia, Luna, and the Umbra -- I simply accept for the sake of scholarly discussion the axioms of those beliefs and apply the rules of logic to come to logical conclusions.

A spot on example:
Assume that X+1=1 and X*2=X.
What is 2+1 and what is 2*2?

The answer is not 3 and 4, but 1 and 2 -- because I have accepted for the sake of discussion the axioms provided by the assumption. I do not believe that X+1=1 or X*2=X. I know that in the real universe, these are wrong -- but in the logical universe (the hypothetical) they must be accepted as true.

I enjoy watching the flame fests and trolls. It's good entertainment. If there was a section for devout Santa Claus believers, I'd be all over that, too.
Frankly though, I don't answer too many questions here. I feel that everyone has a right to believe in whatever they want - so long as they don't stomp on other people's rights.

Just because I am spiritual does not mean that I believe in god. Discussing christianity usually brings forth conflict, war and hate by those who insist on attempting to recruit new believers by trying to force their beliefs upon others. In most other belief structures people live and let live while christains on the other hand think it is their job to "save" us. I dont need saving and when people say believe as we believe or be damned forever to some sort of hell, I am naturally going to comment on that.

I cannot speak for anyone else but I find peoples views interesting especially on such a volatile topic.

Unlike many religious people I like to keep my views from being so myopic.

My observation is religion seems to be a psychological crutch for the weak and/ or ignorant. This doesn't mean I need to bash it, but it does make for some fun every now and again.

I believe in religion, it's a real and actual thing. Do I think any particular religion is right? No. Do I believe in a God? No. But religion still exists, and it has an effect on society and my daily life. Therefore, I come here and ask questions to try and influence the thought process of others.

spirituality is more than just religious

many cultures are spiritual and not religious

religion is the attempt to reproduce a spiritual event or "aha!" moment for another person

we are not to make others see our way but to let others find thier own way, search out thier own spirituality

and R&S in Y!Answers is a great place for outcasts of the exclusive and nonspiritual religious rejects to come and ask the hard questions, why the texts are inconsistent and self defeating, why the people are so hateful yet worship a loving thunder god, etc

I find the absence of religion to be VERY spiritual and calming

I don't confess to any religion, but I do know about religion and it interests me in a philosophical way, and since religion is part of our everyday life, like it or not, there is no excuse for not learning more about it.
I do want to hear good logical explanations about religion, I'm even open to change my mind about things once I get evidence for it. (It has happened once in the last weeks.) The tiring part is that there are people on all sides that display childish "because I said so" behavior.

mainly because we are fed up of being treated like idiots. We are not going to keep on lowering our standards when talking about religion. It is the only subject where people put up with all sort of irrationalities and lack of logic. Why? because if we don't, we are seen as bad or intolerant. If tomorrow I would swear to you that I have a giant diamond buried in my back yard, what would you do? you'd probably laugh or think I'm crazy. So, if you tell me that you believe in God, I should be able to laugh and say that you're crazy without getting condemned by society
