OK' here the deal. I am trying to fix a PC, but what happens is I get Windows xp to just start loading and then the screen goes black. So I rebooted and held down F5 to boot in safe mode and it just locks up. If anyone has any ideas on what the culprit could be please let me know.

I've seen screens go black going into normal mode just from a bad display driver (or even improper display settings) - Doesn't mean it's hardware.

- Doesn't sound like you've gotton to the menu to chose safe mode yet.. f8...

Oh and if you can see things properly up until your software (windows) loads then it's not really at all likely your video card (hardware wise) is the problem

F8 gets you a boot menu, try that. Just pick safe mode or safe mode with networking.

It really sounds like you might have a hardware problem if the screen just goes black early in the boot. You might try to boot with the PCI cards out and all unused drive disconnected and see if it goes that way. If it does, add them a few at a time till you figure out which one is the problem.

Sounds like it could be a bad boot sector. Try selecting "Last known good configuration" and see if that helps. If not you might have to reinstall windows. I would try loading XP on top of itself first. That way you won't delete all your files.

Try F8, right after you turn it on,hit it repeatedly. Most PC's that I've heard of use F8 to boot into safe mode.

hmm...first check to see that all your hardware is connected right, then id go into the bios and make sure everything looks ok, if that still doesnt work, then sounds like it might be a software issue, you might have to reinstall the OS. hope that helps
