Back in the late 60s the voting age was cut from 21 to 18. I know what the 18 year old men were doing to earn this privilege. They were subject to the military draft and fighting and dying. I never understood what the 18 years old women did to earn the privilege.

Today the 18 year old men still register for the draft BUT all women do NOT have to. Sounds unequal in responsibility to me so why not unequal privileges?

.Too bad the equal protection clause doesn't cover equal responsibilities

You make a good point. If citizens are accorded equal rights under the law, regardless of their group affiliation, they must also be mandated to accept the same responsibilities to the society that gave them those rights. It doesn’t make any sense why it is mandatory for men to act in a more self-sacrificial way by signing up for selective service, while women are precluded from this responsibility. Of course this double standard exists in other areas of life too, where women get same rights as men, but without having to carry the same burden as men. It is one of the reasons why I don’t respect the so-called feminists that much.

Well, if the Equal Rights Amendment had been approved, there wouldn't be a difference. It was the men of the country who shot that out of the sky. I agree that women should have the same responsibilities, pay and respect that men have. Maybe you should consider coming over to our side? But hey, why rock the boat? Right now we have MOST of the same privileges and rights, even if not the same pay for doing the same work. Although I believe you are a troll, you inadvertently made a reasonably valid point, although I doubt this answer is in the spirit of replies you were fishing for. Oh, and BTW, are you inferring that women in general do not deserve to vote? The mothers of the soldiers who fought valiantly in Viet Nam were not deserving of the vote even though they sent their sons to that hell hole? Who is more important, the women who had them in childbirth or the men?

The voting age and drinking age should be changed from 18 and 21 to age 25. 18 to 25 year olds are dumber than dirt when it comes to maturity and wisdom. Letting them vote and drink is ridiculous.

The right to vote has nothing to do with military status or obligation. To avoid classifying women as second class citizens, the voting age needs to be the same for both genders.

The just lowered the voting age, it had nothing to do with earning a privilege. The legal age to vote is 18 and thats pretty much it.

Women didn't go into the military then because they couldn't. This doesn't mean they didn't (don't) have the right to have a voice in the government.

Eighteen-year-olds pointed out that they could hold jobs, pay state and federal taxes, yet were denied the right to vote. If they broke the law, they were considered adults, yet the voting laws considered them children.

Eighteen-year-olds could enter into binding contracts, could marry without parental consent and be drafted. But they could not vote.

We have the equal protection clause in the Constitution. What we do for one group, we must do for all. If 18 is the legal age to vote, all 18 year olds must be elegible.

Why would women be any different men. This is there country also. Where do you think the mothers of the next generation come from. They are the ones that give the most when an American fighting man falls.

They had to make everything fair for everyone, to prevent conflict and thusforth disorder. If you were in government, god forbid, and it being an establishment of Control, mind you, would you rather have chaos in the streets or simply give the people what they wanted, which apparently was the fair or "right" thing to do anway, in most opinions. Regardless of the fact, the same could've been said about the slaves, therefore, I find that it's the fact that we all have to live by the same rules and be governed by the same laws, that give people the right to choose who inacts them.

Actually women mature at an earlier age. So really you should be asking yourself why 18 year old MEN get to vote. The army back then liked 18 year old men to enlist because they are just another body, they didn't care so much about their minds as long as they fought well in the war.
AND btw, women can go into the military too. If my sister in law saw your post she'd kick your butt in a heartbeat.
