I am trying to sleep at night in my room. What sort of remedy would you use to 'drown out' or muffle the noises of the television in the living room? My roommates like to watch lots of TV at night.

I have already tried earplugs, but I need to be able to hear my alarm clock in the morning! Any ideas on what you would do?

Use a fan. It makes a nice relaxing white noise, and helps with air circulation. My wife uses it to drown out my snoring!

When my roommates did that to me, I would use a box fan to drown out the noise. I was still able to hear my alarm clock and for the most part the sound of the fan is a constant sound that seemed to drown out the Tv or partying.

I'm an auditory learner so sounds really really get to me.. I'm very focused in on them.. what i have to do is take a large feather pillow and put it over my head to drown out all sound, then i use my cell phone as an alarm and put it on vibrate as it's wake up and place it near/under/in a pocket, wherever... or just set your alarm really loud.. the good thing about the pillow is that it blocks out the sound for a while.. but eventually you will roll around most likely and lose it.. usually long after you are asleep.. so a traditional alarm may still work for you.

I use a floor fan on high...which drowns out alot of noise, but it depends on how loud the TV is...You should tell them to turn it down a bit. Or if you have an IPOD with an alarm, That works well to...I can't fall asleep to music though it has to be completely quiet!

Buy your roommate some earphones that put the sounds in his ears and not in your bedroom. They are sold at places like Radio Shack, etc. They plug into the back of the TV and then he can turn the TV sound down/off and listen thru the earphones.

Have a nice talk with your roommates and explain to them that they need to be alittle more considerate of the volume of the television late at night and you need to get your sleep.
If that doesn't work, loose your consideration early in the morning and wake them up.

Throw the TV out the window.

There are cordless headphones for the TV. I know they sell them at Radio Shack. That should do the trick! They cost about $30.00 dollars.

Wear earplugs and put your cellphone on vibrate in your pants pocket. That should do the trick.

Xanax, or Unisom usually does the trick for me. If you don't like pills, try having a drink or maybe just tell them to shut the **** up.
