I was born and raised in New York. Whenever I bring someone to visit, no matter the weather, we take a train to Harlem and walk down Broadway to lower Manhattan. Depending how fast you walk (and I'd recommend walking slowly), you'll see the sites, walk through several different neighborhoods, past Central Park, all the way to the Financial District.
Plenty to see and do. You can make it an all day event.
BTW, every time I've brought friends down that route, something interesting always happens. Last month, we ran into three of the girls from Making the Band 3 (Andrea, Shannon and D) and had a nice conversation with them.
Good luck and have fun.

In addition to all of the above, check out Madame Tussauds Wax Museum. In Times Square you can eat a great meal at The Olive Garden Restaurant (you don't need a reservation). You can take a tour of Radio City Music Hall and Rockefeller Center. You can go to the TKTS Booth at 46th and Broadway to get same day tickets for a Broadway show. The tickets are discounted and the seats are excellent. Enjoy your visit!

woodbury is a least an hour away. its just a really big outlet mall in a itty bitty town. with a diner i used to go to with my x boyfriend (oh the memories) there's much better things to see in NY. personally i like the guggenheim museum. the building itself is great, not to mention the exhibits.

well make sure you stay in manhattan. you do not have to ask where you should go. because new york city (manhattan) you just walk out the door from your hotel, and you turn left or right, east or west, north or south, and there will be things to do and things to see.
but soho, herald square, chinatown, 5th avenue, rockafeller center, all great and should not be missed.
have fun!!!!!!!!
