Illegal immigration laws are in place to protect the citizens of this country. I think that the Federal Gov't should start penalizing cities who refuse to enforce federal law.
Do you agree? If so, what kind of punishment should be enforced by the feds?

Yes they should be punished for not following the excising laws of this nation,no city or state should be able to circumvent federal laws. The punishment should be the with holding of government funds until they correct their mistakes and a huge fine/or criminal punishment of the mayor/governor for doing something blatantly illegal.in the eyes of our federal government. Each state is only a member of this country, they can not make or break federal laws.
The federal government needs to get up off its lazy war centered azz and enforce all laws .The laws pertaining to illegals needs/must be enforced in an aggressive proactive manner. Our borders must be secured and now.
Vote the lazy bastards out of office
Make them take a strong stand against law breaking criminals.

Yes, for below the standard performance, which I assume is set by the practice of the feds. I am not knowledgeable about the specified roles of the feds vs. the states vs. cities or counties. If the feds are supposed to enforce the same laws in the same way the other jurisdictions are and the feds are not following their own requirements then the other jurisdictions should only be held to the standards to the level maintained by the feds.
If those standards are not met by the states/cities/counties then the punishment should start after warnings in writing and should consist of graduated discipline of those persons responsible for not meeting the standards. You can not withhold funding, because money is needed to maintain the standards. The problems need to be corrected by having people who are responsible for the problem either change their faulty behavior or be replaced with people who will correct the problems.
Problems of this type often are not related to money directly tied to the particular project, in this case border enforcment, but instead are related to key people who are not doing their job correctly, either because they are incompetent or because they don't want to perform for what ever reason. The problem can best be corrected by a change in key people's behavior or replacement by another person.
Sometimes monetary rewards and hold backs on other unrelated unnecessary or "pet" projects may be effective at changing behavior, but this should only be done if the key person at fault can not be changed or replaced by more direct means.
Taking federal money for states/cities/counties away from them or holding it back is difficult to do. Getting poor performers to improve their behavior or even removed is also tricky. This is why needed change often takes many years or never occurs.

Actually they are Federal Laws that the feds refuse to enforce. They have actively blocked cities and states from trying to get rid of illegals. It is a twisted thing when our fed govt wants to give the country away

It is the federal government which has the primary responsibility to protect our borders and it is doing a poor job of it. It is so poor that States and local jurisdictions are passing laws to keep illegal aliens out of their areas.

The feds don't enforce the laws, how can you punish cities and states for not enforcing them?

in my mind the first "punishment" should be to the senators & representatives that do not support closing our borders by voting! The federal government could hardly "punish" cities & states...it would have to be a "do as I say, not as I do" kind of thing.,

Of course they SHOULD but fact is that the Fed doesn't enforce the laws either.
In the words of comedian Lenny Bruce, "The truth is what is, what should be is a lie."
