I keep mine on the balcony. I have 2. I live in CA so its ok, but I keep the balcony door open all the time just wide enough for them to get outside. I used to have it in the bathroom but the litter got everywhere. In the old place it was in a spare bedroom, but that made the whole room unusable (and I clean it twice a day!) Its really hard if you dont have a perfect spot but a covered box is better and cleaning it often is best. I was afraid they wouldnt use it because of the noise of the cars driving past constantly, but they love it and hang out on the balcony all the time!

Also like that other person said, keep it as far away from their food AND where ever they may sleep as possible.

We kept our litterpan in the bathroom upstairs.
We did have it in our half bath, the guest bathroom downstairs, but that was when he was smaller. Now we are training him to use the toilet. He is doing great! A few more weeks and we won't have to worry about a litterbox anymore. Imagine the money we will save on kittly litter!!!
Good Luck!

Well I keep it in a closet in the unused bedroom and I use the giant covered ones (I have two of them) for (3) cats and I clean em every other day and use baking soda to mix with the clumping cat litter ..You can't smell anything if you follow this proceedure... keeping the boxes clean and scrubbed out once a month is also a must...good luck

I have 1 litter box in the upstairs - none on main floor and 3 in the basement
the upstairs one has silicone bead litter and in the basement its non--scented clumping
- I have 2 indoor cats, its always a good idea to have more litter boxes than you have cats

*the laundry room is never a good place especially next to the laundry machine because if the machine changes cycle while kitty is using the litter it could scare them from using it

we keep it in the bathroom i believe that there is no other place that a litter box belongs i mean think about it you go to the bathroom there so it already has some jerms and smells like a bathroom why stink up another part of your house with animal droppings and by the way putting it in your kitchen is just gross!

i wouldnt have a cat if my husband didnt want one i dont like cats or anything else that has to go to the bathroom in the house so i have to clean it up

I keep it in the laundry room off the the corner by the dryer. I would never keep it in the kitchen...Hello.... food is prepared there I do not want to smell poop where I eat. The laundry room covers most smells with the laundry soap and the dryer sheets help, also. But if there is a plug in in there by one of those Glade plug-ins and that also helps.

A quiet area; Bathroom is ideal, although in our house, there is not enough room. We keep a couple in a spare room upstairs, one in our bedroom and a couple in the basement (We have a multi cat environment).

One per cat, plus an extra is ideal. *Never* in a food area, like the kitchen, unless it is well away from food preparation.

I keep it in the hallway, right outside the bathroom. There's a perfect space for it right in front of the furnace room. It's one of those covered litterboxes. If I lived in a house with a basement that's where it would be.

At first we kept ours downstairs in the bathroom, but my husband didn't like it so close to the kitchen after a while. So we moved it upstairs into the extra bathroom in the linen closet with the door open.
