Eating animal food is quite common with high prices today. Seniors readily admit to it. They slice it right from the can and fry it.
However be prepared, the things found in pet foods are dangerous even to pets. Bone shards that can pierce the intestines causing serious infections leading to death.
Cat food is usually higher in protein, but remember cats usually get urinary infections and die.
Dog food is mostly made up of corn and animal guts.
Look for the first ingredient......it's usually corn. Then the rest will be various by products some even include sawdust. (They call it something else like cellulose)

Well Debbie... You might ask a company like Purina... I hope I never have to eat pet food but I would think that cat food would be terrible and if I had to eat dog food then... Gosh my stomach is turning just thinking about it!

I remember when I was very young being at the grocery store and a man buying a can of ALPO saying that he was going to brown it on the stove like hamburger and eat it...

IN general I would assume all of it is safe as it has to meet Government standards, and you don't hear about little kids dying from eating their dogs food they got into. Would I eat it? No. Cat food in the wet version just stinks. The newer dog foods in the premium levels that we feed our dog look like human stews etc but seeing as how the preservative levels let the meat and meat biproducts sit on store shelf unrefrigerated for long periods of time I wouldnt suggest that either.

NO - dog food is VERY unhealthy for them! They're completely different species of animals with VERY different nutritional requirements. Dogs are omnivores - cats are carnivores. In fact, most of the snacks sold for cats are total crap - you shouldn't be giving those to your cats, either. Cats really don't have any need for snacks - period. If you "must" give them something then buy HEALTHY snacks - freeze dried chicken or salmon, dried bonita flakes. Shouldn't you have asked this BEFORE you gave them to your cat - and especially so a young kitten????? Please educate yourself about cat nutrition before you end up making them VERY ill.

If a human were to eat dog or cat food, then that human must be retarded, and locked up, so just lock up this person and throw away the key.

I think maybe one of those gourmet cat foods would be ok if I were starving. Thanks, but I've had breakfast today.
