The Sabbath is actually Saturday, and God says we should meet together to worship in Leviticus 23. Going to Church is only part of keeping it Holy.

"Keep the sabbath holy" doesn't necessarily mean that you have to attend church every Sunday. It refers to not working, plowing the fields, etc. On the Sabbath we are to spend time contemplating our lives and praying for Gods will to be done in our life. The Sabbath is to be a reverant day to worship as you believe. To some the Sabbath is Friday, to some it's Saturday and to mainstream Christians it is Sunday. It doesn't matter which day it is as long as you respect and honor the Sabbath.

The Sabbath is the seventh day. The Israelites didn't follow a Julian calendar when that commandment was written. The sabbath could be on a Tuesday, for all I know. Anyway, we're supposed to rest on the seventh day (Which could be saturday or sunday, depending on which country you're from). That doesn't mean we have to go to church. It just means we're supposed to take a day to rest and reflect on all God has created and given to us.There wasn't a church when the 10 Commandments were written.

Good thinking, Joey. I don't think the right wing buttheads could refute that point, but the concept may be too deep to expect them to understand it. I'd like to see what anyone writes about this idea. This is great, Joey! Ishtar is wrong in calling marriage a sacrament. Only the Roman Catholics refer to marriage (incorrectly) as a sacrament. Part of the reformation did away with calling marriage a sacrament simply because of the civil nature of it as a contract.

Sabbath originally meant Saturday. But to 'keep it' is to observe it, so loosely applied, I suppose it is not incorrect for some to interpret this as 'go to church on Sunday.'

Definately that was not it's original intent. As it predates Christianity, churches, and worshipping on Sundays.
