Hardly think burning sage will solve your problem! Aside from the obvious (take her to the vet & have them administer the Frontline Plus, and also keep her indoors), here are some tips:

To eliminate fleas, you need to be thorough; in the end it will be less expensive because the fleas will not return.

Fleas spend very little time on the animal. They feed, hop off, and lay eggs. The eggs hatch in about 3 weeks, jump back on and start the whole process again. The eggs can also lay dormant for up to a year.

What you need to do is give the cat a bath, rinse very well, and towel &/or blow dry.

An alternative is to ask the vet for Capstar, which will begin killing fleas within half an hour. There are some very good flea prevention products on the market. My favorite is Frontline Plus. This kills fleas and prevents more from hatching. You apply it once a month.

In addition, you really need to treat your home with a flea “bomb”. My favorite brand is Zodiac with Precor. Kills the fleas and contains a growth inhibitor to prevent more from hatching. Lasts for 7 months. Then apply a premise spray under any large furniture, such as your couch and bed.

Vacuuming daily in addition to other treatments also helps. A warm light in an outlet over a tray of soapy water will drown any stragglers (the warmth attracts the fleas who jump into the tray), but this shouldn’t be necessary if you’ve already “bombed” your house.

If this is an outdoor cat (hopefully not), you may want to treat around your house as well.

For very young kittens (under 8 weeks old) stay with the natural remedies. Under 5 weeks old, you shouldn’t bathe them. Powder them thoroughly with cornstarch (safe, but destroys the exoskeletal system of fleas). Then you need to hand pick them off. A flea comb is helpful to do this.

Why is she so cranky?

Anyway, some herbs are natural insecticides.

Sage is one of them, so it should work. However, you'd have to burn it, and quite a bit of it, so that the smoke permeates her fur. That might be a bit difficult.

You could also try thyme powder and sprinkle it on her and rub it into her fur.

Another good insect repellant is citronella oil.

If none of these work, then you'll just have to get rough, I'm afraid.

Get someone to help you. When she's unawares, grab her firmly by the scruff of the neck and hold her down gently but firmly. She'll struggle, but hold on tight. Then slip the collar on her. Or apply the other stuff.

It will kill the mites and fleas, but probably kill the dog as well. If not, it will very likely cause cancer and burn holes into the dog's skin. There are many other safe alternatives to kill fleas. Flea shampoo Flea spray/powder for the yard and house Flea treatment like Frontline or Advantage

Burning sage will do nothing except make your house smell like armpits. Maybe take the cat to the vet in a carrier and have them Frontline her - they get paid to get bitten. ;-) Frontline really does work well.

You may have to take your munchkin to Grandma's or somewhere and bomb the house anyway, and then keep your cats indoors only. They get reinfested every time they go outside. Fleas are really stubborn but they can be gotten rid of - it just takes time and patience.

I'd have to agree that taking your cat/s to the vet and getting them Frontlined is a good idea and I'd also take your little one to another place to bomb your house because even though you don't want to expose your child to harmful pesticides, you have to consider the fact that your child could get fleas as well!
