The most skillful painters in history were 1.Jan Vermeer van Delft 2.Diego Velasquez 3.Raphael Urbino 4. Leonardo da Vinci 5. Michelangelo Buonarotti. Others notable for skill include Titian, Giorgione, Rembrandt, Hals, Holbein and Van Steen. The Van Eyck brothers, Masacio, Giotto, Botticelli, El Greco, Fra Angelico, David and Ingres had some skill if not as much as the top painters. I am fascinated by weird paintings by Bosch, Breughel, Dali and Magritte. Monet, Manet, Picasso, Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cezanne, Seurat, Matisse and Braque had little skill. Pollock, Mondriaan and Kandinsky had none at all. I have several Art History books, and I took History of Art in Europe and American Art History in college. I also studied Asian Art, so I can name thousands of painters, sculptors and architects.
