IF this is about equal rights, which it is, then they should have to meet the exact same requirements. Right now, nothing about the military is equal. Females are allowed to lack in many areas. Now, there are many who love what they do, take care of themselves and work their butts off. There's also many who think the military is camp and treat it as such. However, in today's world since it's about equal rights and wanting to do what the men do, then it should be TOTALLY equal in every aspect of military life.

My husband and I have had this argument many, many times. From my point of view, males and females are physically different. That's a fact. Men are generally stronger, faster and bigger than women. The APFT, although not scientific, compensates for anatomy.

Men can occupy any job the military has to offer. Women are limited to non-combat arms jobs. Incidentally, the most physically demanding jobs in the Army are all combat arms. The limitation from combat arms jobs is the price women have to pay for separate PT standards. Additionally, I have only met two females EVER who was able to max their PT tests using the men's standards. That should tell you something.

Equal rights and all that aside, women simply can't compete with men on a purely physical level. PT scores are taken into consideration in matters of advancement regardless of MOS. It would be extremely unfair to hold women to a standard that the majority of them cannot meet.

So, to answer your question, yes. I do think that females should have different PT standards than males. Females are graded differently because they ARE different. I am sorry that you feel somehow cheated that you have to do 42 pushups for a female's 17 but be honest with yourself. Does it really matter if you plan to hold a job that a female can't? Does it really matter if you know that you are a good soldier? Be the best you can be instead of asking the system to make it easier for you.

I do think they should have different standards, but I'm inclined to think they should possibly be a little higher than they are now--as someone before me stated, you do find more females maxing their PT than you find with guys. That being said, in my opinion I think that (at least in the Army's case) that too much importance is being placed on PT. I find that it's used as a ruler by which to judge, and compare people to each other; and there's just too much of a difference in individual athletic ability for that to be taken seriously. Not only that, but it's used in place of, or in spite of, individual merit, accomplishments, and proficiency at the job you were hired to do... or in spite of a lack in any of those things, on the flip side. Someone who is a complete moron, bully, or arrogant ****** who has no idea how to do their job correctly or use their equipment can go to the board and get promoted with flying colors, simply because they can memorize a few regulations, creeds, iron their uniform... and get a high PT score. You can be the smartest person in the military, never get into any kind of trouble, treat your family and your coworkers well, and be the best at your job; but if your PT score is only above the minimum (which supposedly is the "standard" anyway) your chain of command considers you to be a dirtbag... and really more because it makes their numbers look bad. I've seen people who are quite overweight get high PT scores and people who are overall physically fit get mediocre scores, so it's hardly a serious measure of physical ability or fitness anyway.

they're already taking part in the metrics game asserting such nonsense as women human beings will could meet an identical standards or standards isn't diminished. the everyday is already diminished -- it extremely is graded on a scale, in spite of the indisputable fact that, so a woman prefer carry out decrease bodily to value an identical score as a guy. Idiots who have been by no skill interior the protection tension will assert this as evidence that the factors are an identical and, regrettably, maximum morons interior the U. S. will settle for that falseness as reality.

I think the people who gripe about this are the sorry a** soldiers that whine and complain about anything else. Sure some females take advantage of the difference in the standard. But come on, there are males that can't even pass a 21 yr old female's standard themselves.
If the APFT was perfect it wouldn't be revised every year.

Considering that women are excluded from doing certain M.O.S.'s, I would say yes, women should have different standards. That being said, I do think that the gap between standards is pretty crazy. A lot more women max PT tests than guys I've found.

They do, in the Air Force they have more lenient standards because they have different body structure and body mass. The requirement for push up’s and crunches and running is less for the most part. Don’t get me wrong, they are required to maintain fitness the standards are just different

Honestly I think that the test should be the same for everyone... I know that most females probably will not agree with me but If you want to be military you shouldn't get off easy because you're a girl...

If they want to fight like a man and get PAID like a man, then they should have to do the same PT's and yada yada. Equal Opportunity...my a**. Sometimes women need to stand back and evaluate why they want equal opportunity and then realize that if they get it , then they shouldn't need concessions to fill the hole made for them. We have been PC'd and EOE'd to death!

If your going to be in a foxhole ,you had better hope the person next to you has a score equal or better than you have. You don't need someone to carry.
