People who have multiple cats and/or are more engrossed with their cat(s) than normal pet owners seem to have a certain characteristic to their personality that I just can't describe. There also seems to be a relationship between these folks and latex allergies. I know it sounds crazy but I work in a hospital and see from 20-40 different patients daily. There are strange similarities among the "cat people" and latex allergy patients. Quite a few of these "cat people" are also latex allergy patients. Just curious if anyone else out there has noticed any of this?

No, I haven't seen that, and I show & raise cats.

I don't have any allergies (except, strangely a mild allergy to animals) & certainly not to latex! Nor do any of the other people who show, that I'm aware of.

Perhaps you are projecting a false hypothesis to support the vague "characteristic" you propose?

I am a long time cat lover and I don't think I'm strange. I also worked in the medical field both with animals and humans and I do not have a latex allergy.
I think it's a coincidence because now cats are in more homes, people have found that having two cats is better than one and maybe it's just a coincidence that more people are realizing that latex can cause an allergy.

To the person above me--my cats aren't anti social, they are sweet and friendly. The fact that they don't "need" me for everything doesn't mean they are anti social. Read things for what they are-Don't read into them! So there!

I have to disagree. People with cats don't take them everywhere they go like "dog people". They don't buy goofy tote bags to carry their cats around in them. They don't dress cats in costumes like dog people. They don't have to take them outside to watch them do their business. They don't leave the house knowing that they have to be back in 4 to 6 hours so they can potty the cat. They would not tolerate a 60 lb. cat jumping on company, or sniffing their crotches. Cat people like cats because cats are independent and self sufficient. We don't like to be needed constantly or followed around every time we go to a different room.

It is hard to understand you using the word engrossed when in reference to a cat rather than a dog. You just don't like cats---There is nothing wrong with that, but to label people by their pet preference seems very strange.

PS-My husband has a DOG & Latex allergies. I have 2 cats and no allergies. He had his before we ever combined housholds so you can't blame my cats.

Well... I don't know about the people you see in the hospital but I myself could be considered a "cat" person, owning five cats and I don't have an allergy to latex. I also wouldn't consider myself odd or my relationship with my pets odd. Of course, I also own two dogs, a parrot, a tarantula, a snake and dozens apon dozens apon dozens of fish. So really, I'm more of an animal person. A well educated, well adjusted member of society I might add. I'd have to say you might be jumping to a rather irrational conclusion. No offense. That'd be like me coming to the conclusion that people who work in hospitals are too absorbed in their work, based on the fact everyone I know who works in a hospital, including my mother and Grandfather, are quite absorbed in their work, as you appear to be. But that wouldn't be a fair conclusion to come to considering the fact I haven't done a random survey on the topic. Wouldn't you agree?

I'd have to disagree with the person below me in regards to how cats interact with their owners. My felines are very affectionate, they sit in my lap often and do follow me from room to room. They also beg for food just as my dogs do! How a cat interacts with it's human is purely based on how that cat was raised. Obviously, her cats were raised to be self-sufficient and what I would consider anti-social. I have pets for the companionship and my cats are included in that.

Wow, i didnt know any of that but it does sound a lot like myself!
I'm a bit of a nut, whenever I go shopping I have to buy Bubby Shirlz (Shirley) presents or treats and I even download catlovers Podcasts. She's my baby! I actually wanted a baby til I got a cat.
Now I couldnt be less interested.

Any "fanatic" can be "a little on the strange side". The cat people are probably saying that same thing about some "dog fanatics". I still cringe when my soon-to-be daughter-in-law talks to the dog she bought my son and says things like, "daddy will get you a treat."
