Why don't muslims call for Jihad against the muslim extremists?

The Muslim "non-extremists" agree with the jihad that the Muslim extremists do. All Muslims have the same objectives because of scriptures of the Qur'an. Some Muslims are more inclined to violence than others. "Hirabah" would be the name for terrorism - warfare that is contrary to the rules of engagement in the Qur'an. According to Professor Khalid Abou el Fadl, "hirabah" means "killing by stealth and targeting a defenseless victim in a way intended to cause terror in society."
"Mufsidoon" means evildoers. What Westerners want is for mainstream Muslims to sanction the Muslim mufsidoon. "Mujahideen" means those who fight in jihad.

Symantics are very important to Muslims. Jihad is not equivalent to holy war. The closest thing to "Holy War" is the phrase "jihad fee sybil Allah" which is struggle in the cause of Allah. But struggle does not mean fighting and war. That word is "qatala". There are specific rules for "qitl fee sybil Allah" warfare in the cause of Allah that are listed in the Qur'an.

Unlike the Bible, the Qur'an gives very specific rules of engagement for jihad.

Among Muslims there are those who:
a) jihad/qitl in the path of Allah with their wealth and their lives (including those who sit at home but give asylum to mujahidin 4:74) = true Muslim
b) those who sit at home (and do not give asylum to mujahidin or jihad in the path of Allah)
c) the handicapped (does not count as a category)

According to the Qur'an who is a true believer?

3:140 If you have sustained a wound, _ (a blow in the battlefield) _ others too have suffered a similar kind of wound, earlier. These are the vicissitudes of life that We circulate among mankind by turns. Thus, Allah tests the true believers among you, so He may pick the martyrs among you. Allah does not like the wrongdoers.

4:95 The two are not equal: those who sit at home (and do not join the fighting) _ unless they have a reason; they are handicapped _ and those who [jihad] strive hard in the path of Allah with their wealth and lives. Over those who sit at home, Allah has excelled and elevated to a higher honor those who strive hard with their wealth and lives.
Compared to those who sit at home, Allah will award a far greater reward to those who wage a struggle.

8:74 Those who believed, left their homes and waged a struggle for the cause of Allah as well as those who helped and protected them are really the true believers. There is forgiveness for them and a generous rewards.

49:15 The (true) believers are actually those who believe in Allah and His messenger and then do not waver (and do not entertain doubts). With their wealth and their lives, they strive for the sake of Allah. Such are truly the sincere ones

9:86 As soon as a chapter (of the Qur’an) is revealed (instructing them), “Believe in Allah and wage a struggle along with His messenger” the able bodied (and well to do) among them ask to be exempted. They say, “Leave us (behind). Let us be among those who sit at home

Killing (qitl) and jihad in the cause of Allah is the hallmark of true Muslim believers. It is not a matter of moderate or fanatic. It is the distinction of a true believer or a rebel.

4:76 Those who believe, do fight for the sake of Allah, while those who reject faith (Islam) fight for the cause of ‘taghut’ _ (all rebellious forces aligned against Allah). So, fight against the minions of Shaitan. Feeble indeed is the wily guile of Shaitan!

Does this include atomic weapons?
8:60 Acquire and prepare all the (military) strength you can muster, including the finest trained horses (and other military wares). With that, you would daunt and deter the enemies of Allah _ your enemies, and others besides them. You do not know them, but Allah (surely) knows them. Anything you spend in the path of Allah will be returned to you in full. You will not be wronged (at all).

2:216 Warfare (for the sake of Allah) has been ordained for you, though it is not something you like. It is possible that the thing you detest might just (turn out to) be good for you. It is possible that the thing you like (the most) might in reality be bad for you. Allah knows (all) while you know nothing (at all)!

4:74 Those who have traded away the life of this world for (the benefits of) the life-to-come, ought to fight for the sake of Allah. To anyone who fights for the sake of Allah, We will award the most generous reward whether he is killed (in the process) or comes out victorious.

Not all Muslims blow up things, yet "jihad in the cause of Allah" "jihad fee sybil Allah" is "fard ayn" "compulsory duty" for all Muslims. Why? There are rules from the Quran for combattive jihad.

Jihad is not strapping a bomb to oneself and blowing up innocent people or protesting on the streets or burning building or flags like the extremists are doing.

Jihad is anything from an inward spiritual struggle to attain perfect faith to a struggle of good against eveil waged by writing and speech..etc...

The good muslims are doing jihad against the bad muslims by picking writing ariticles against terrorism, spreading the true islamic teachings, lectures in churches and so on...spreading the good word..and inshallah..eventually the tgood will overcome the bad.

Yes islam does support jihad but only for self-defence purposes.And even then it does not allow the women,children,old people,the sick,the crippled,the religious leaders and the people who are not a part of the war tobe killed.These are exactly the group that the terrorist target as they are the most vulnerable. But this is against islam and not for it.

JIhads are religious struggles......they could be the struggle of a mother to keep religion strong with her children....it doesn't necessarily mean war. Since many believe that Islam promotes peace and peaceful solutions, the people against the extremists are speaking out against them.

Jihad means to fight back those who do not let you perform your religion, to fight back those who oppress you. No islamic extremist is humiliating oppressing and forbidden non extremist muslims to perform their religion.

Yes muslims in general or moderate muslims hate deviant jihad made by extremists or muslim terrorists.Allah hates all which is called extreme such as extreme extravagant,extreme eating etc.Muslim extremist or terrorist made the wrong way of jihad. by making sicide bomb.The government of Indonesia made a special police troop for fighting the terrorists all over Indonesia.They have shot dead last year the leader of terrorists from Malaysia who operated his action in Indonesia.Muslims in Indonesia help the police by informing them if they found the terrorists..Last week a house in Palembang the capital city of South Sumatera province was broken by bomb exploding.The police caught several persons who involved in that case and the police still chase Nurdin M Top a malaysian as the leader of terrorists

Well there are certain Muslims who do carry the fight but as for the others I am not sure.

Maybe these others really believe Islam is a religion of peace, to the point that they are paralyzed from taking any serious action against them.

why don't Christians call for fight against those Christians terrorists?

Americans usually don't know what's going on around the world. those terrorists were hurting Muslim countries before even 9/11. we were fighting terrorists in Egypt, making people understand their true meaning of faith, fight anyone who has terrorist behavior. to the limit that many Muslims though that these terrorists were a creation from Israel to destroy the Muslim world. Ben laden was kicked out from his country because of his suspicious terrorism act, guess who helped him out in Afghanistan? even though they knew he was a terrorist?

we don't know when did this idea of terrorism came out, and who is really behind it. it started after the creation of Israel. we never knew anything about someone blow himself out or terrorism. all this organization terrorism thing is a new thing to this century. I think it's that part of Islam (the non-extreme muslims) that support the claim that Islam is a peaceful religion. However, it would be a great way to solve the problem.
