Why does a dog keep licking its body here and there as if it is itchy or grooming itself?

It could be it's cleaning himself , but if he have fleas he might have a allergic reaction them and that is why he keeps licking, or if you bathe your dog it might be allergic to the shampoo you use to.
Look for fleas that is the most common alot of dogs have allergic reactions to them and then they end up getting worms from the fleas

Dogs don't groom themselves. It's the cats who do.

It's abnormal for a dog to keep licking itself.

It might have a bad itch, in which case, it's more likely to scratch itself. Since it doesn't scratch, it may be because scratching will cause more pain.

My guess is that it's in pain. Or it could have some sort of neurosis.

It needs a thorough checkup at the vet's.

That's exactly why it is licking-that is how a dog handles grooming and scratching, at times.

Take your dog to the vet and make sure there is not a skin problem going on. That's the only way you will know for sure, or I suppose you could call the psychic network and ask them.

It might have an itch or if licking the joints may be in pain. Ask your vet.

He probably has dry skin...buy him some good shampoo with a conditioner, and you can also give him an antihistimine tablet, it really worked, I did it for my dog...with the vets ok

probably why you said. if it seems like it is licking specific locations, it might be in pain there. my old dog used to lick her joints when her arthritus was hurting her.
