There are no rules in who you can have for a best man. If that's the way the groom feels about his dad, I think that's wonderful. That says that his dad is also his best friend, which is something you don't often see today. There's no "normal" anymore anyway today. <*)))><

Personally never heard of it but siblings are very common to be bestman/head bridesmaid. Still whatever works for you. If you're dad is your best friend then why the hell not.
Even if you want to think of it in terms of traditional responsibilities at the wedding, the father of the groom doesn't really have many responsibilities (apart from a speech) so it shouldn't be a problem from a practical perspective.

It actually happens a lot. I think that it's a wonderful thing to do because so many weddings over shadow the groom's father. The mother of the bride is always noticed as a hostess in a sense, the father of the bride gets the daddy-daughter dance, mother of the groom gets the mother-son dance, so where does that leave the groom's father???? I think that it is great to have the man that got him there standing up there by his side as he makes the biggest committment of his life!!!

Normal is a relative term. Weddings although often referred to as traditional vary tremendously. If one considers his father as his best friend and someone he trusts most in the world there is no reason to not have him as a best man. I've been to highly traditional weddings were the maid of honor was actually a man. The bride's best friend was a guy (ironically a gay guy) but a guy all the same. She called him her Man of Honor.
Nothing is normal except what you see it as. I walked down the aisle by myself. I thought it was perfectly normal because I'd walked through my late childhood and teenage years without a dad or true father figure in my life. Others thought it was just weird not to have an escort.

My husband had his dad has his best man. We really liked that and then my dad walked me down. So, then both of our mom's walked down together carrying the lit tapers that went beside the unity candle. It worked out great. But it is really up to the bride and groom. You can have whoever you want as your bestman.

A friend of ours had his dad for his best man. I was surprised at first, but it really made sense. He is the only son and he and his dad are very close. Also, it probably made it easier for him not having to choose one of his buddies. When I got married it was difficult for my husband to pick one of his friends to be the best man (same group of friends here). They are all very close and have been friends for a long time. I think it is a great idea to have a father for a best man....who has known you the longest?

It is completely normal, what an honor for a father to think his son respects and loves him enough to say that he is his son's best friend. My husband and I will be married for 25 years this year and we are talking about another wedding since we didn't get a big one 25 years ago and he has asked our son to be his best man and I have asked our daughter to be my maid of honor. It is a wonderful thing to have happen.

If you have a good relationship with your father can you think of a person that would be any better?
Normally done by a friend there is no reason why your father could not fit that bill. And who would love to do it for you more than your father.

Not many people do that, but I guess if they are close....that's his bestman. Anyway, when did that episode come on? I must have missed that one...

My husband's father was his best man. We deejay weddings and this seems to be a trend lately. I like the idea of making the groom's father the best man. It's a sign of respect.
