the pulse oximeter is hwat that little thing is called, it measures the pulse and O2 saturation at the same time, more than 92% is considered normal since it corelates with a normal pressure of O2 in the blood. typical inspiration includes 21% O2 in the room air, this is enough to give perfect saturations anywhere from 92-99 or even 100 % saturation. some lung or heart conditions can cause it to drop and if the nurse incidently picks up a low saturation then it is a good reason to look for something that could be a concern, eg asthma, heart failure, emphysema etc, good luck

Can't tell ur saturation just from taking ur pulse. They have a thing called a pulse oximeter. It goes on ur finger and uses a light to measure the oxygen saturation. Most drs say 95-100% is good. Anything less than 90% is not so good. If ur fingers r blue, u r not getting enough oxygen, and if ur saturation doesn't come up by placing u on oxygen through a nasal cannula, mask, or bipap, u will need to be intubated.

The saturation is the amount of oxygen in the red blood cells, there are two ways to check, one is a pulse ox,which is placed on the finger, usually, you want your range to be between 94 and 100 %. The other is through ABG,arterial blood gasses,in which blood is drawn from an artery and checked,it takes about 10 minutes. And must be done by a licensed professional.

It's not read by your pulse. The little red light they put on your finger (pulse oximetry) reads not only the pulse, but you oxygen saturation by the amount of hemoglobin it can read with the red light. Ideally you want your O2 sat to be above 97%, people with COPD are lower. Low sats can be a sign of pneumonia, asthma, bronchits, just to name a few.
