The house and senate have just agreed to spend 1.2 billion on a border fence. Some say this is a political game. I wonder if this is what people really want. Would this make you happier with your government or do you think it is just a way to get votes?

I think this is a political ploy that panders to a very vocal segment of the population. Fences don't keep crooks out of your property even in the middle of a city- yet it is supposed to work in mostly empty desert?

This is an emotional issue, so logic and facts are being ignored in the rush to 'do something'. Sad, but the way politics (and the media) are working in our society today.

Not unless there is enforcement and a real plan to stop illegal immigration which includes dismantling the employment and benefit magnets.

It is a start, but they are clearly giving us what the business lobbies are least worried about, not what would work best. Since I don't trust them to maintain staffing for extra border guards once they get their guest worker program, I think it is a necessary part of the package, however.

I do NOT like the idea that border areas should decide if they get a fence since some border towns are 'coopted' and don't care that they are the entry to the rest of the country.

The US needs to do something! On the Mexican border, the flood of illegals is killing the economy and infrastructure we are loosing entire hospitals because of their inability to pay for services. Many argue that they do jobs US citizens won’t do but when you look at those jobs, you find there are citizens that will do the work but that companies will not hire them because the non citizen will work for almost nothing and if treated unfairly, has no recourse but to leave and look for something else, that is if the treatment is bad enough. On the Canadian border, many of the same issues are involved, the United States has had open borders all along but we are now waking up to not only a terrorist threat but also to an economic and national threat. Yes we need something to be done and I think this is a good start…………….we can not afford not to!

That is only the beginning. I won't be satisfied until the number of illegals in the USA has been reduced substantially. That hasn't happened yet, although they are being deported everyday.

The Homeland Security Department Thursday awarded Boeing Co. a $67 million contract to install a high-tech "virtual fence" along the Mexican border in Arizona.

The contract, which calls for cameras, sensors and even unmanned planes, is the first part of a multibillion-dollar government plan designed to reduce illegal entry along the 6,000 miles of the Canadian and Mexican borders.

Both a way for votes and a way to secure the border. Its not enough. We need a wall that covers every square inch. If you are going to do it, do it. Don't pussyfoot around!

We need the wall and a good plan for the 11 or 12 million illegal aliens that are here. I do not want them to be granted citizenship, what for breaking our laws!
Remember, if we legalize the 12 million, they can then petition their relatives, that number may balloon to 100 milllion. Do we need 100 million more people in our country draining our social services, buying up the price of gas and creating more pollution, and even the crime those numbers would bring in? NO!
We let in over 1 million LEGAL immigrants each year into our country, so they can share our American dream. Thats more than enough, thank you very much!

I'm not too pleased with the fence, sorry. However, I would like to bee more border patrol, more action against those that are coming over illegally - no, not harming anyone, just turning them around..or taking them back another way.
I'm also sorry that many assume it's just the Mexican people that come here illegally, that we're unhappy about. For me, illegal is illegal, no matter the country..
This country needs to enforce it's laws, periods. This country needs to get a backbone.. if it doesn't, I'm sure that the people who have one, won't be afraid to stand up and be noted. Maybe that's what we need: WE the People!!!! Time to take back our country.. at least we're not interested in whose going to vote for us.
Please, come to our country legally.. and assimilate into 'our' culture.. as Americans..
I will add here, I really hate the term African-American .. Mexican-American.. whatever whatever American.. Be American, period!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A partial fence is only a start...
We need a full length fence..
We need more border enforcement..
We need the current 12 million illegals sent back to Mexico..

It's just another way to get votes and to make it look like they are trying to do something about the problem.

I look at it as a start - the repercussions against the landlords and businesses that rent/hire illegal immigrants is not that far off. . . And it is just one step ahead. Everyone keep screaming at your reps!!!!

I want them to shut the flow off. The fence might help. To me this at least looks like an attempt. It still needs follow up.

Personally i would rather see illegals get work visas, green cards or apply for citizenship..but i guess they are not willing to go that route so...screw em.
