Since Toy Breeds are prone to low blood sugar, it is especially important to make sure that your pup does not go without food for too long. For this reason, I recommend either free feeding or feeding several small meals a day. With free feeding, you will need to insure that your pet does not overeat and that other pets do not keep any one pet from eating. I recommend feeding a premium small bite puppy food, such as Eukanuba Small Bite Puppy Food . You can run warm water over dry dog food thru a strainer. If your puppy has very small teeth. I also highly recommend Science Diet AD Prescription Puppy food if your puppy appears weak or has problems eating especially if you have a very tiny puppy. Science Diet AD can be purchased at your local vets office. Just let them know you are purchasing it for a tiny dog. You can also coat your puppy's food with Stage 1 chicken baby food. (no added salt, garlic or preservatives)
Your puppy may be shivering because Chihuahuas prefer warmer temperatures and really enjoy sunbathing (just beware of the dangers of heatstroke). They don't tolerate cold well at all. If you have to take them out in the cold, try putting a "doggie" sweater or coat on them to help keep them warm. (I know how to crochet so I make my Chihuahuas their own sweaters. So if you know how to crochet or know someone who does you can have homemade sweaters!)
Good luck with your puppy! I have two Chihuahuas and they are my best friends.

your dog is spoilt
there is no such thing as a TEACUP Chihuahua - it is either a runt or a dog who wasnt nurished well when younger.. these small dogs typically have ALOT more problems and should always be avoided when selecting a pup
once you started the trend of feeding her from your hand its hard to break- but you must do so or you will always be feeding her this way
start by offering her a few pieces of food with the bowl near by then sort of offer her the bowl.. gradually (over a few days) move yourself away from offering it in this way..
you can encourage eating by sprinkling small amount of garlic powder on the food or warming it slightly in the microwave to bring out the oils and make the food smell better
(dogs like smellier food)
make sure the kibble is small and of good quality (any from grocery store or wal mart are LOW quality)

Chihuahuas shiver for many reasons so that really shouldn't be a cause for concern BUT you need to bring her to the vet so he can recommend a special food for your dog & he may have to give her an I.V. for nutrience & so she doesn't get dehydrated.
The sooner you bring her in the better!!
Good Luck & give her big kisses for me!!!

Believe it or not my 6 year old miniature schnauzer is so spoiled that I have to hand feed her her food or she'll just walk away from it. I do it every day ...it only takes a minute and then she's happy. I say do what it takes to keep your furry baby happy and healthy.
