Alot of you were saying it depends on the type of tea. I was wondering about black tea. I actually want to find a tea that is low in caffeine or caffeine free but can give me a little kick in the morning.

generally a cup of coffee has more caffeine than a cup of tea, though it depends on the strength of the tea or coffee.

Tea leaves have a higher concentration of caffeine than coffee 'beans' however when your roast and dry coffee beans then make a cup of coffee it usually has more caffeine than an infusion of tea-leaves and boiling water water.

If tea-leaves were roasted and ground into a powder like coffee, then a cup of tea may have more caffeine than a cup of coffee.

It depends on the type of tea or coffee.
If it's just regular tea from a tea bag, and coffee from a can, the tea bag actually has more caffeine.
I think it's the same for tea leaves, and coffee beans.
But it also depends on the type.
Ceylon tea (the tea we normally drink) is high in caffeine, but herbal tea, like Chinese green tea, or South African Rooibos, only has traces of caffeine in it.
The same for coffee, some plants are bred to have lower levels of caffeine in it.
Just check the labels of the two brands you are comparing.
Hope this helps.

Tea has less caffeine than coffee for the same amount. About one third to half.

Green tea seems to have more caffeine than coffee.

Calcium binds with caffeine and renders the caffeine ineffective. So taking lots of milk in your coffee or tea should cut down on the caffeine working on your body. At least, you won't be kept awake at night.

Caffeine will also bind with the calcium in other foods, and even with our bone calcium. So it's not a good idea to drink black coffee with meals, or all the time. You may develop a lack of calcium.

There are many, many varieties of tea...from delicate jasmine to one called 'Iron Maiden' that will curl your toenails. The amount of caffeine varies with the type as well as the curing process, so there isn't a simple answer to your question. I prefer one called Po Lei which has less caffeine.....green tea is a generalized term for any tea that is not orange (pekoe) and doesn't indicate which one. Buying tea here in China is a treat, as like in Japan there is a formal rictual of scalding the tea cups etc, then the first steeping, and finally the drinking tea...and you can do this for each of the fifty varieties of tea....but some shops have even more kinds. In HaiKou City on HaiNan Island, one shop had at least 200 kinds, aged, fermented, dried, etc.

It depends on what kind of tea. Herbal tea (like mint, chamomile, etc.) has no caffeine, green tea has some but not as much as coffee, black and red teas usually have more than green. About the same as coffee I believe.

No, brewed tea has about 70 mg per 7 oz and coffee has 115-175 mg per 7 oz (if you use drip coffee maker). Other methods of brewing change the amount of caffeine, but it generally results in more caffeine per ounce than tea.
