Yes, I'd say it's totally worth it. My three closest friends have been through allot with me. I consider myself very fortunate to have as many "true" friends as I do. But I take friendship very seriously and would do anything for them and they know it.

I'm fortunate enough to have three such friends,and yes,the trip is worth it.There is nothing I wouldn't do for them(even to the point of trading my life to save theirs) and I know without a doubt that they feel the same way. I know that I've been blessed to have such friends,and look forward each day to a "new" Earth.

Figuratively yes, great lengths need to be taken in order to achieve great things.
Literally, I don't think that I would make it past Heaven. Once there I probably wouldn't want to go anywhere else :)
