This is oil on canvas approx 3ft x 2ft. I cannot read the signature in the bottom right corner, but I need to know if it is worth having it cleaned professionally.
Does anyone know this painting please?

Constable or Turner would be lovely for you!! But its not...
I doubt it is by a very famous person, have you checked the back of the canvas? the actual canvas, mostly paintings like that have a paper backing, take it off and check the stretcher too, or bring it to an expert. As it looks pretty clean to me! It may not be worth getting it professionally cleaned.

Hi , I studied history of art at university and used to buy and sell paintings..it does not look to be worth a great amount I,m afraid..looks as if painted in the far east / Hong Kong etc within last 20 years..but do get another opinion ..cheers

the artist is unknown.

However, if you wish to clean the picture use solvent ether and cotton buds.
Dip the cotton bud in ether and roll gently over the face of the picture, rolling not scrubbing, doing about 2 cms square at a time. Discard the cotton bud after each pass. This is what a cleaner does. it takes time, just be patient!

Sorry but I'm pretty sure it's not a Constable. The guy had a major obesession with clouds and there just aren't any clouds firmly depicted in that that picture. Constable would have been my first guess, I can't think who else might have done it.

Really looks like a Constable work. Try looking up John Constables' work using yahoo search and see if there is his catalogue on line that you can compare to your painting. Good Luck!

Looks like Italy. Certainly not a famous British artist.

Could possibly be a Constable or Turner. Have it cleaned professionally and they should be able to set your mind at rest. It certainly looks good enough to treasure.

The only thing I am certain of is this is not a Constable. Best I can do.
