No, we don't take it home, no, we don't sell drugs to put our kids through college. Not that its never happened but 99% of police officers are moral, honest, hard working people who would never even consider using confiscated property for their personal gain.
Contraband is destroyed and saleable items are auctioned off or donated to charities.
Yeah I have a nice house in a good neighborhood. I worked for what I have, sometimes 20 hours a day, sometimes 7 days a week, for about 25 years. Even when you get paid as little as a cop makes, it adds up.
Why do I do this? For my kids of course, good neighborhoods mean good schools, sports leagues, and a generally safe and wholesome environment to grow up in. I teach by example, and stress the importance of respect for authority, something your parents forgot to do.
You hide behind your cute little anonymous avitar and make all your baseless, anti-police statements just because you are curious? Just remember, curiosity killed the kitty cat.

They are suppose to destroy the drugs. And a lot of agencies destory or melt down and recycle the metal from weapons. But they have auctions to sell the other stuff they get. They use the money to compensate for lack of funding for salaries, cars, protective devices, k-9 units, etc. As far as them living the good life, well, there could be a lot of explainations for that. Prehaps their family has money, or their wives/husbands have good paying jobs. Maybe they made good investments or have rental property. There are lots of ways to make money. Where I live they run a scam, they work as security officers when they are off duty. It is a scam because construction companies are forced to hire them to direct traffic when they need to use a traffic lane. They make $25-30/hr in CASH money. So, they break the law by not paying taxes on it.

Any property confiscated by police is kept as evidence as long as it is needed. When it isn't needed anymore, it is either given back to the owner (depending on what it is and the laws of the state) or it is disposed of according to the laws of the state. Illegal drugs are usually destroyed in an environmentally-approved incinerator. Most small stuff is destroyed, but cars and homes can be sold at auction. Any money made from auctions or seized in RICO/drug stings goes directly into that police department's operation and maintenanace (O&M) budget.

Well anything that the police take is always logged into evidence. The evidence is usually kept unitl the trial and depending on the outcome so they can use it for appeals. The drugs and guns are usually burned, whikle the money is put into the budget. The police officers do not and cannot take the money. This is not the Shield on FX!!

I would be careful implying things, when you have no information. Many policemen moonlight to supplement their income, and if there wife is working as well they can afford as nice a house as anyone else on the block, and rightfully so. In response to your question. Seized drugs are usually burned, sometimes at a local factory that has a forge or kiln of some sort. Seized property is normally auctioned or used for undercover work. There is a strict means of documentation and accountability.

First of all a great majority of officers work 2 jobs, off duty security one of the many, and their wives work as well to afford what they EARN. The drugs are properly destroyed and the property that is seized is sold and the money is used to buy more and updated equipment, so the next time you see my hubby busting through your door wearing his SWAT gear you can thank your local meth dealer. (and the police for busting them).

Most cops work a boatload of hours. Usually overtime and/or side-work. I know some guys that work full time at a second job. That's where the money comes from.
As far as evidence goes, once a case is adjudicated there are very strict guidelines for its disposal.

unlawful drugs are retained as evidence earlier no longer needed & then destroyed (or each and every so often small quantities are used for undercover paintings). funds & usable resources are disposed of as required through the regulation of the jurisdiction whose officials made the seizure. usually there is a few statutory formula dividing seized funds & forefeited contraband between the state & the corporate. funds & proceeds from revenues are deposited in the state's or company's monetary corporation account. the authorities ought to convey a forfeiture intending to regulate to the due procedure criteria of the U. S. structure. in case you go surfing to between the federal courtroom internet web content you'll locate situations with names like: us of a vs. $a million,575.00 or us of a vs. One 1967 Chevrolet vin # .

They re-sell to pay for the bullet-proof vests they need. If your local police are making less than $30k a year, then YOU and the local government are at fault, not them. Your town should find out what it's like not to have police since they can't afford to live decently on the salary you people pay them. Shame on you!
