if it is a "Crt" ( not a thin screen one) it can be effected by magnets.
Magnets like in speakers ( your stereo) or many other common devices.
when a magnet is turned one way on them, it makes a red spot appear, and the other, a green spot.

if it is indeed that problem, erasing a red spot is done with passing a magnet clost to the screen on the "green" side
( test it in any spot, just don't hold it there long)
as for the reception, It could be
1 a loose or broken cable ( tug and or shake your cables, if it gets worse or better on one of htem, thats the culprit
2: Bad receptpion where you live if its gettign tv from the air ( antenna) -geta power antenna.
something phsyically wrong with the satelight/cable service/tv

if it does it with a tape or ddvd player too,
then its a cable or the tv......

If a plasma, most mofels of those were bad from the start. They are working to get it right, but those who paid big bucks to get the first one on the block are just sh-it out of luck. Being first is always worst. I wait till things have been around and I actually need to replace something before getting the newer model. I pay for things with cash as I have long range plans to buy. I am rich because I manage things this way and get the big screen only when I am forced to because the old TV broke. Bugs are worked out by then. Give more information on type, brand, etc (like hdtv, plasma, rear projection) and hopefully someone can help. If you have adelphia cable the problem may be them and they have been sold and will not update or fix anything.

do you have comcast digital cable?? My big screen has been doing the same thing. It also turn black and white, does your's?? Anyway, DO NOT take the chance of putting a magnet anywhere near your t.v.!!! I ruined my grandmother's tv as a child doing that!!! This guy may be a computer geek and he may be right, but I wouldn't take the risk!!! Call a professional. Could be your color wheel. Good Luck!
