I can't say conclusively, however, I have 3 family members who smoked marijuana for years and display various degrees of mental illness. One is certified, one now speaks like a complete idiot - bachelor's degree aside, and the other is functioning at a higher level, but makes very bad decisions. Money runs through all of them like water through a sieve.
I know of many other relatives and their friends who smoke weed, but I think it can be really dangerous for some folks while totally "recreational" for others. My conclusion is that some people are more likely to become dependent on the drug and others, who may have a pre-disposition to mental illness, are at great risk of becoming mentally ill, not just burnouts.

over a long period of time? i'm not really sure but i could imagine it has devistating effects, because i quit a long time ago. it really messed me up and i'm not sure why. i felt like my eyes wouldn't close and a non stoping flash of light kept blocking my vision. my friends were talking but i could barely understand them. i almost couldn't walk on my on. well i didn't learn from that first expierence so another time when i was over at a friends house, i smoked again and my heart started racing and i fell flat out on the floor but didn't pass out i had to be helped up. i seriously think it has different effects on different people. was i going crazy? it certainly seemed like it. i mean i'm now on an anti-anxiety medication i take everyday which i feel like marijuana caused this and ruined part of my life. i wish i had some kind of link to some research for ya but i'm speaking from personal expierence which can't be found in research.

I had the exact same experience with it, but those thoughts of hell and repeating life over and over began with the hallucinogens first. Then started to resurface later after I quit the hallucinogens but still smoked. you need to stop smoking the pot. I did and now I am fine. It is a warning that you should take seriously. The Lord has since saved me and blessed my life. He then called me to preach a couple years later and I wouldn't go back for anything. In my opinion, drugs are another one of the devils tools to draw you away from living a victorious life in Christ. I will pray for you, God Bless.

People tweak out the first time they get really stoned. But nobody has ever gone crazy for long.

There is loads of crazies near me. I live in Trinidad and all the rastas spend all day smoking weed (it grows all over the place here). All the vagrants, are all older rastas and all look completley out of it all the time.
